lure colour

Post by CKIfisho »

A mixture of action and colour (maybe?) Lately I've only been getting hits off lures with some blue on them. An identical lure (Nilsmaster Spearhead) gets nothing.
I 've got some interesting stuff here from a dive medical text
"Colours underwater are not percieved as they are on the surface due to the absorption of various wavelengths of the spectrum by water.
Red orange and yellow - absorbed the most
then proceeds down in order
green, blue, indigo and voilet is the least
Hence at depth, sunlight tends to be percieved as deepening hues of blue. Staining of waters markedly affects this perception and other colours may occur. ....... Hence objects which appear red at the surface are affected underwater by the absorption of red by the water, and therefore often appear black"

I am not really sure how this affects lure colour choice, when diving i know that even in crystal clear water things tend to appear blue or not as bright even in depths of about 10 metres.

If you get a nose bleed when you are diving in shallow water it looks like green lime cordial.

Oh sorry, I forgot that I have been a little different since I was abducted by aliens .. :P .

I am starting to think its all about action and less about color. I have had times when the barra will only take one type of lure but it didn't matter what color it was. Other people I have fished with will swear by one or 2 colors... gold and green!!!

If you have 200-300 lures on board you can't go wrong.. unless your wife counts them and works out how much they cost ya
