Lightning Shots from East Arm

Post by nomad »

Snuck out last night and collected a few shots
This is from the ramp looking directly towards the dredger

The storm was moving away and there were some great cloud to cloud strikes

I havent got the patience to do it without the trigger.

Just set and forget. That is until the storm either side of where you have focused fires up more than where you are aiming. :D

Doug
The trigger is an electronic device that detects lightning and fires off the camera via a cable. You have to adjust the settings depending how far the lightning is away from you ie from sensitive to zero
Cost around $150

Getting the camera settings right is half the battle. Start off 5 secs and adjust up to 30 secs. The problem is that all the background light (ie from the ship) gets brighter the longer the exposure.
I tried to make the pic larger but havent had any luck. Click on it for a better view

I took about 200 frames in 2 1/2 hrs

Olfart
The cloud to cloud (CC)strikes look pretty good and are rarer (and better IMHO) than Cloud to Ground (CG)
