Hey Pech

I know quite a few years ago alot of guys used to go down to thath area and fish the rocks at night towards the Casino side of Cullen Bay fishing for sharks. i used to fish there around the same time but never saw any. But as i said a big night time shark hang out, Whether they still fish for them there I don't know

Enjoy the fishing there its a great spot

Hi Seano and Woo,

This is exactly the kind of replies I was hoping not to read...

But I guess it is alway better to know than living in ignorance...
So thanks for the replies, and if ever I hook another one, I will think about it... Even more...

Pech dont worry -Ive caught hundreds of them and only one got sharked! They are heaps quicker than sharks -the one that got smashed was at the end of a 250mtr run- it started jumping heaps then was real easy to pull in- because it was bitten totally in half! It just makes it more interesting. Ive had milkies running fast and then after 150mtrs suddenly double there speed -they are a truly amazing sport fish- pound for pound one of the best.

Isn't it awesome. That's when you start laughing 8) bl..dy hell they are quick!
Their jumps are awesome too. Pecheur's milky cleared a couple of rocks at the end of the wall resulting in Pech almost swimming after it

They have spooled me on many occasions with an abu 6000 full off six kilo mono -about 300mtrs. you actually start casting to the mediam sized ones and leave the big buggers alone! I find they fight better in shallow water- no where else to go but across the flats. I love it when they jump like dolphins thoughout the whole run...Awesome.

Ok, the jumps that's ok to talk aboput it, but the part about Pecheur almost swimming... That was supposed to be a secret!

No just kidding, but yes that was absolutely amazing... (The jumps, not the swimming  )
Now I want another one...

I still love Queenfish and GTs a lot, Barra, I don't remember, it was too long ago  but Milkfish might become one of the fish that end up on the to do list on a regular basis...

Hell yeah man. Reminds me of a couple of months ago, the milkies were rampant so I had a go with a little surecatch reel that I got for my 5th birthday spooled with 10lb braid and $25 flimsy rod from Big W. Landed two after a very long fight with each. Hooked a little queenie on the same gear later on and my reel sounded like a mess haha. I doubt many other fish have the gear stripping skills that milkies do.

Hey Pech, just with the eating side of milkies I was in the Philippines earlier this year and ate a fair share of them. A lot of the time they butterfly them and cook them over charcoal. They actually taste pretty good but they are absolutely infested with bones!!! You can actually buy de-boned milkfish over there too, my cousin told me it takes the pro's at the markets about 3-5 minutes to do it per fish, pretty impressive considering all the hair-like bones!

Hi there,

Clay, thank you for the info about eating them. If ever I get lucky enough to land another one, I will keep it for a try...

Milt, I often smile in my sleep, specially when I have to go fishing in the morning!
