Headed down today for a flick in the tinny.
Rung sandpalms .. info was the dip is at 800.
Drove all the way there found out they were way wrong with that info. Thx heaps. BTW .fellas

.. the dip was about 80m wide and at a depth of 1.1m bugger that for a joke.

Dropped the boat off and headed back down for a landbased attempt. 1st barra 40 cm from 20m to the right of the dip. I crossed the creek it was a legit 1.1m and headed to the mouth. A nice colour change greeted me and first few casts had a couple of half hearted hits. Soon the inevitable happened and my vibe was snagged in the substantial timber pile on the bottom :banghead:

Re-rigged and changed tactics to a YOZURI crystal minnow 110mm
( I'd read up that they went OK down here last year )
1st cast produced a nice barra around 60cm . 2nd cast I was solidly hooked up onto a good fish too. l played it out and skidded a new comp upgrade of an 85 cm plus barra onto the bank. As I wrapped up the leader around my hand and and lifted it further up the bank the loop knot popped.:banghead: spewin.
It flipped once and bounced all the way back down into the river powering off without a 2nd thought ... it then continued to jump for the next 20 min trying to rid itself of my lure.

Re rigging again you beauty. I fished on for a bit but it had gone a quiet after the initial bursts of action. I moved spots after a few dozen more casts only produced strikes from rats ... a zerek prawn was the next offering from the plano tray. Immediately a few sooties were first onto it while casting still up inside the next creek. Then a few nice barra followed working the eddies on each side of the feeder creek mouth for the arvo before the mozzies moved in by the hundred on sunset signalling that it was time to bail out.

Landbased proved to be a decent backup plan today, fortunately.
Whilst there were no massive fish caught today, it's definitely looking good for in a weeks time, keen to give it a run at the creeks below 3 ways. From what I saw this arvo there's heaps of bait in there too.

On a side note I caught a barra with a few odd marks on it today out there... croc damage maybe ??

Nah.. but you can get pretty badly bogged offroading this time of year .. low 3rd with a run up for this section after airing down to 18psi and holding it at full revs helped too . Made it thankfully! Had to come back out through the same track too.

Headed back down for a landbased flick again this afternoon.
Barra were still on with a nice solid 74 being the biggest one I was able to recover from the timber after getting dusted. Light spin isn't really the correct tool for the job in this spot.

Few fish today I hooked a couple of better ones in the mid 80s but no luck getting a picture for comp upgrade yet.

Did manage this little fella at 62cm complete with a

MDF season 3 RED TAG! !!!

Pity that the comp finished 10 days ago :banghead: could've been worth 10 grand.

Rung them, stupidly admitted i wasn't on facebook he was all good about it ......then rung me back 5 min later with news of a loophole about not liking the page first. . . and got screwed.

Honesty not always the best policy apparently.

Got a few more nice barra down there yesterday. This was the biggest one. The water rose a bit today but only 100-150mm though . . Must've p!ssed down rain up through Litchfield it also rained for an hour out that way too. Saw a ripper redclaw nearly get scooped in his landing net by a young bloke after getting it almost landed on a live perch. It got away today, I reckon I will be setting a couple of pots next time I'm down there too. :lobster:

ZEREK prawn did the damage on this one, it's still going strong after 4 trips and at least 30 fish. Worth the 14 bucks compared to the DOA prawns of years gone by.
