With the tides being cooperative for a bit of landbased fishing at one of my favourite land spots yesterday after work, I decided early in the day to head on down for a bit of a flick after work. As I drove home to palmy the rain was falling and my hopes of a descent bit of fishing were being dashed. Never-the-less I decided to go down for a look see anyway.
All I can say is WOW!
Never seen anything like it... I arrived at the spot in the pouring rain and decided to hideout under a tree and just see if there was any activity in the pouring rain. There was stuff smashing the surface all over the shop (big boils and splashes etc).
So I threw around a drop-bear for a while with no luck. Switch to a fizzer and on the fifth cast I was on... a nice fat 56cm Queenie. With the queenie safely in the esky i continued my wet fishing experience. For the next 45 minutes or so I hooked up and dropped 5 queenies (with at least 20-30 non hookup hits). The last was at least 80cm and successfully snapped off the two treble hooks off my favourite popper that i was using.
I wonder does anyone know how high a queenie can jump? I saw one launch itself out the water about 30m from shore and it was airborne for at least 3-4 seconds. I estimate it went up about 10m. AWESOME stuff!
Not really dissapointed that i didn't land more that the one fish, it was just great fun!

great post champ
Good to have a flick and get rid of all the stress a days work can give ya.
Ive had a queeny nearly a meter long boatside, it dived when it seen the net chucked a u-turn and speared out of the water and landed in the boat. this was a 6 meter platey with high sides and no shyte it wouldve nearly gone over the rocket launches, made a huge mess when it landed and a loud thump that would scare the poop out of anyone.
Awesome fish the old skinny, my favourite sportfish due to good fight, alrite to chew and theres plenty of them around
