Nightcliff Jetty Macks and Queenies at the Wharf
Recently been heading out to Nightcliff Jetty for the last few days. Haven't been able to hook onto a Mack, but have had a some good runs. Spotted barra hanging around the stairs on the low. My mate managed to pull in a 45 kg, 156 cm Mackerel (see below). Not sure what gear he was using or tide conditions as I wasn't present when he caught it.
With no luck at the Jetty, I headed to the wharf and caught a 86 cm Queenie on a strip of Dorab Wolf Herring, Chirocentrus dorab (Forsskål 1775).
Both the Queenie and the Wolf Herring (caught on live sardine at Nightcliff) were caught Caught on my Penn 750 SSM, Silstar 8 - 15 kg, and a Gamakatsu size 4 octopus hook. 30 lb Kast King Braid and 60 lb Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon Leader. Tide was outgoing.
I was surprised to see huge Golden Trevally eating bread at the wharf. We initially set out to catch milk fish and mullet, however the tide was puling the bread out to the other side.

Wicked fish mate. And your mate definitely has a fish of a lifetime land based. But he might need to buy better scales

Great post, there has been a few nice Macky's and Gts out and about Nightcliff Jetty. A young bloke called Jesse has being crushing them landing a few nice big Macky's in the range of 20kg to 35kg and 8 to 15kg GTs. The Macky your mate is holding is one of the fish he has caught.

I didn't see your comment till now. Yeah I spoke to Jesse and found out it was his fish. My mate is known for stealing pictures (Jesse is known to steal a few to lol). They both are good at telling tales.Nightcliffjettyrat wrote:Great post, there has been a few nice Macky's and Gts out and about Nightcliff Jetty.
