Halco and raider slices at high speed spin running pace will get u hooked up on a trev or queenie after a few casts or sometimes after a lot more casts usually while you aren't paying attention. Balloon out a bigger livie if you are trying to get onto the big one.

X raps n bombers in over the oysters and rock channels usually do the damage for barra. I generally use 45lb leader for barra but upgrade up to 70lb in bad spots good idea to run 2m of it using knots that will run through your guides. Slim beauty knot off a 20 turn Bimini does the job nicely.

Good luck.

where abouts would you fish on lee point? I went tonight at high tide for a hour or two and just couldnt simply get the casting distance using 20lb braid 7ft Spin 20lb leader with a halco metal lure. Maybe is was the size of the lure im not aure, what size lure should i use?
When its high tide i have no clue

Low tide i assume i should use the same rig and head to the rocks and fish of them?

My spin rod is for casting metals when I see some surface action , but most of the catch is on live bait .
I fish mainly between the rocks on a morning high around 7mt. Get there before sun up collect your live bait , 1.5mt leader with a running ball or barrel sinker straight to the hook . You don't need a lot of distance with live bait , 15 /20mts is fine and hand lines work just as well .
But your fishing it in the wrong season . You'll get fish but Dry season is the best for LB .

10 blokes will give you 10 different set ups , do the time and find out what works for you .

What sort of fishing did you do before Darwin?
Fishing ain't that much different here , Rule one: Wet hooks catch the most fish , good luck .

aRobbo, I have caught more carp in Aust than I want to remember. As a freshwater species they do give a good account of themselves, no doubt.

If I were you I would focus all my attention on catching a barra. When you do you will want to fish for them everyday and will probably never go home to mother England.

aRobbo, bit of a learning curve in the NT after the carp ponds.

Have done the UK carp and course fishing myself, I lived in Surrey for a couple of years and fished Frenshams and a lake at Godalming, and the River Wey in Guildford.

Also the River Torrens in Adelaide, SA, some cracker carp in there!

Nice matt, i went down to lee point beach today at low tide. I didnt catch but was a major improvement, i lost a fish on the rocks and constant bites. I lost a few hooks though, i think i need to work on my knots. Just learned the FG knot so will try that out on my leader and improve my knots on my hooks and lure

Check out the simplified method for an FG knot like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oohOoOOmbNk.

The main thing I do different is make a quick loop so in the braid first so I can hook it onto something so you don't need it in your mouth. I also trim the leader tag before doing the hitches around the braid but that might not really matter.

With this method, the main thing you will mess up is either not enough tension on the leader or too much tension on the braid which can cause it to become hard to loop the leader over. It will make sense if you experience it.

In my opinion this knot is easy and quick once you get some practice and goes through the guides better than any other knot. And after sorting my initial tension problems I have not had any failures after using the knot for a few years. Something else always gives, usually some part of the braid that has got frayed.

Dannett, i had a few practices earlier and seems pretty simple once you do it a few times. I guess only one way to find if i did it correctly and thats to get it out onto the water haha
