Re: Leanyer Water Park Culvert Query
Mate I know of people that have caught the barra there and eaten it recently. They are all fine, and even said it was delicious. I was close to taking a barra i caught there the other week - it was pretty damn silver.STOKESY77 wrote:Whatever you do, do not eat any fish caught from there as that drain goes through pass the sh!t ponds out the back of Leanyer and gets flushed out into a little creek far up Buff creek called "Green" creek
On my way to catch a 1 metre barra... some day

Really good place for mullet to! Was there 3-4 weeks ago and they were everywhere. Also caught a 46cm barra and dropped 2 more on the same day. All about the timing.

How far in is it from the gate/fence?

Long time since I went but you have to walk along the fence to the creek and then along the creek to the end of the fence.
frig all if your keen to far if your not.
Right about the Tampons Seano. Have seen a 1.1M come out of there a lot of years ago

"I wouldn't worry about it too much. Barra move all over the systems, in and out with the tides. Many barra you'll catch in Shoal Bay would have been up Buff Creek at some stage. If its chrome it'll be fine to eat. Just be careful with how you process them. Wash them off good, skin them and try not to let the meat touch the outside of the skins and she'll be right "
Geez sounds like something the Balinese Chef said, before he cooked the fish for the Qld Mother and Daughter that died....

Each to his own I guess! I am a born and bred Darwinite (37 yrs) and everyone I know up here would not even think about eating anything that came out of those drains, that's just wrong not to mention f@ckin' disgusting But hey if that's what tickles your fancy then go for it but surely they can't be that desperate to eat a barra caught from there plenty of other places close to home you can catch a nice clean barraDreamrider- wrote:Mate I know of people that have caught the barra there and eaten it recently. Whatever makes you feel good Fish Tank, just keep telling yourself that and I'm sure you will be eating plenty more "clean" chrome barra's from that drain (toilet)

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't eat anything out of there, but I don't really like eating barra much anyway (goldies on the other hand ). Just saying that there is no reason why the barra in there are any different from the ones you catch in Shoal Bay and the Harbour. Probably safer than the heavy metal contaminated barra in the Daly River. The point is, barra move around and are not resident in any one creek for their whole life. So if you like barra and you catch a nice legal chromie in the drains ... eat it. It just swam up from the ocean.

Re: Leanyer Water Park Culvert Query
I agree, goldies are better eating fish and even though I do enjoy eating barra I enjoy catching them even more I just wouldn't eat them if they were caught from Leanyer drain
