Good spots for kids

Post by HMP »

G'day,
I know it's probably been asked before but I have a 9,7, and 3 year old who are into fishing, any suggestions for a few good spots?

Whiting on the beaches at high tide, good fun. Try right around Lee Point, and Gunn Point.

Hard to recommend other spots because of crocs.

Be careful at Rapid creek mouth as well with Kids. Crocs frequent that area. I think people walking there dags have caught a couple of crocs attention.

Give the fishing jetty at Elizabeth river boat ramp a crack. Use small hooks (size1) on light gear and you can pick up small stripies, decent bream, ock ock and stuff. Best around half tide up on the incoming towards the landward end of the jetty. Good fun for the kids. Flick a live mullet out on barra gear out near the rock wall on the upstream side while your doing it and you never know you might snag a barra, cod or queenie. Oh and take plenty of reppelent or you'll get eaten alive.

Cheers guys, yeah it's difficult for access with the kids cause of crocs or wading through muddy mangroves. So I think I'll give Elizabeth River a go, and we've been frequently going to rapid Creek and stokes Hill.

East arm boat ramp is always a good one. Maybe little tricky off the rocks. Still safer than on the waters edge.

Night cliff jetty or off the rocks left of the ramp on the low of the neaps this coming weekend. Use prawns and small hooks, kids should have fun.

Stokesy77 - great little creek back in the day, before they made it a carpark. Haven't fished it in years, used to set up a little fire at nights. Cheers for the memories

HMP if you wanna take them out on a boat in the next month or so give me a PM. Always keen to take young tackers out and get a few small fish.

I know a few spots for small goldies, bream, queenies, Trevally etc. I have three life jackets but can probably source some kids ones from somewhere.
