I suggest you head to Fishing and Outdoor World in Cavenagh St, and talk to George, Matt or Ron. These guys are real nice, will give you all the local knowledge you'll need, and more importantly they stock local squid from Mr Barra, and sell it in 250gm, or 1/2 kg packs. Do not buy service station bait.

Tuesday's got good tides for all sorts of things.

The morning high of 6m+ is good for the Cullen Bay haunt - get right out on the end of the rockwall and cast for queenies with chromies or maribu jigs. You could also bait fish off there for cod, snapper, bream or whatever. You could float a pilchard out for a unlucky mack. That same high can be fished off any rocky point. East Point, or even just down at the wharf end of Lameroo beach (just down from the Esplanade).

The afternoon low is good for a barra or two on the incoming - with lures. Get a couple gold bombers from George, and cast them out, raise the rod tip high and jig, jig, jig, wind, jig, jig, wind. Just find some oyster rocks - Lameroo Beach is a good option, and not fished too much - nice and close to the CBD. Or off the rocks below the Iron Ore Wharf that is being demolished. Or the rocks at the high school end of Mindil Beach. It is winter time here, so the barra are a bit harder, but a gold bomber can entice just about anything onto your rod, so give it a blast.

cheers

Hi there,

I fished the Cullen Bay rockwall on Saturday morning for nothing, but the guys next to me hooked on 3 big fish, landed one nice Queenfish and got 2 lines snaped by the other fishes...
But I could not get a single hit.

So on Sunday afternoon I went to Lameroo beach and used some frozen pilchards.
In less than 2 hours, 3 cods, one massive stingray and 1 hook lost to a big fish who brock my 50 pounds braid...

So I guess that we can still get some good fishing from the shore in Darwin.

Have a good day,
Pecheur.
