Work has started to back off so took the opportunity to have a dogs day out up the lake the other day. Went its length to the top dam reacquainting ourselves. Sooties were scarce but to be expected for just now. Had a loosener on a couple of big powertails then went looking for barras for zip. The sounder picked out a stack of arches on the way back so had a crack expecting more powertails. Took about 40 minutes for one of them to turn into a 70cm barra so hung around. One of a couple of arches off the main school turned out to be something a bit bigger. Got a few more fish before they went to bed so headed back down to town and home.
The water at the surface is still a warm 24C. Air temp is a different story though after dark. As soon as the sun slips away the cold air spills down the valleys and onto the surface of the lake and you need a jacket to stay warm.

Nice fish for the middle of winter Dick Those big powertails would warm you up nicely for a crack at the Barra. Certainly take the wrinkles out.

Yeah power tails don't believe in hurrying but they don't know what stop means either.
