Wind-On Leader Give Away...witha small catch!

Post by George2731 »

Guys,

Long time enthusiastic observer of the site but p..s poor contributor...to date!

The Hook
Understanding how valuable local knowledge is when fishing up North, I'm looking to 'buy' some of that knowledge with a 'payment' of Big Willy's Wind-on Leaders (to the specification of your choice)

The Background
Myself and a couple of mates from down south are heading to Dundee for 3 days fishing around the 3rd Nov (a long story that culminated in drunken arm waving at a men’s health charity Auction that saw us with 3 days fully kitted 5.5m GS Marine boat hire from Darwin Boat Hire (A cracking effort on behalf of Steve and the guys at Darwin Boat Hire for donating the boat hire to such a worthy cause).
Whilst reasonably experienced fisho's/boato's (having fished the top end numerous times before), we have SFA knowledge of the Dundee area and are looking to put a plan of attack together to maximise the return on our three days fishing. We are predominately C&R (might keep one for the BBQ) and lean toward lures and soft plastics over bait.

The Offer
I am offering 20 Big Willy’s Wind On Leaders in return for a ‘plan of attack’ for a 3 day session out of Dundee from the 3nd to the 5th Nov. The plan will hopefully take into consideration tides, weather forecasts, likelihood of catch etc. I have a copy of the NA Fish Finder Bible (it’s been on the bed side table for a couple of years now!), and am really looking for a time, tide, location and species specific plan……….. acknowledging that a plan is just that! and even the best ones can go to shite! (and before you state the obvious! If time permitted and booking availability permitted we would get a guide for a day or so to show us the ropes, but this is short notice and we’re off!)

The Product
You won’t find Big Willy’s WOL’s on the net or in any tackle shop, I’ve been making them for 5 or 6 years (have made thousands of the things) but generally give them away to mates and family and sell a few to cover material costs. They are a quality product (Cortland Greenspot Dacron, Schneider Klear Line, a short Tanaka loop (for a smoother entrance of your Willy in the first hole…sorry guide), full length mono to the loop, a whip finish any dominatrix would be proud of and 5 coats of the finest glue!). They have accounted for hundreds and hundreds of quality fish Australia wide and come in 20lb, 30lb, 45lb, 55lb and 80lb in whatever length you specify from 2 -5M, all individually packaged/labeled on card in a sealed plastic.

The Process
This is the hard bit….I’m looking to identify the Dundee Guru, who is willing to impart some knowledge, essentially what would he or she do with three days from the 3rd-5th Nov). The plan will be kept in the strictest confidence and eaten on the 5th to destroy the evidence.

So over to you…who has the credentials and wants 20 Big Willy’s ? (left myself wide open with that one!)

Cheers
K

Good on you George something different
Are you planning on doing an overnighter or just day trips?

Get a hold of the FF mag and a copy of the waypoints

search willys weather http://tides.willyweather.com.au/nt/dar ... beach.html for tides winds etc
give BOM a call as well

Dundee are is still one area where I can always catch fish but there are plenty of people here who are gurus on the area.
go get em 8) .

FIRSTLY I AM NO DUNDEE GURU & WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE LACK OF FISH CAUGHT. disclaimer done.

1. Post up on FFF regardless of results including a few pics.
2. Sunday 3rd is a 3 tide day, not a fan so no need to rush out, ensure boat is packed - beers & waters are on ice, will need plenty of both and something to munch on.
3. Purchase last minute tackle from local tackle shop/s and grab a box of squid just in case.
4. Time your run out so you can have a countery lunch @ Noonamah ( I think the ballet may be on )
5. Check in @ the lodge and have a beer, say GDAY and get all ya gear ready.
6. Get the tractor to put you in late arvo and work the rocks around the foreshore for Barra on the turn of the H/Tide, pull the boat out yourself 7-7.30PM ( Only If you have a 4wd to pull ya out after 6PM )

MONDAY 4th
Head Wide towards Perons keep an eye out for any birds working, might be some tuna or mackies around ( have a spin rod or 2 rigged with a slice ready to go )
Make your way towards reef near Perons ( not sure of the name sorry John Smith I think ) and drop some gulps or dirty dirty Squid bait for queenfish and goldies
Troll and flick around Perons area be careful of Bommies, go slow !!! so you may as well drag a lure around while exploring.
If the wind drops off in the arvo head back towards Bowra Shoals, do a few drifts over shoally/rubbly looking bottom with Gulps, position boat so all can jig gulps on the same side of boat or drop the anchor, again break out the bait . ( ensure you leave enough time to be back and pulled out before 6PM unless you are happy to use ya car )
Speak to people back at the filleting table and pub they maybe able to help and this can decide what to do on the tuesday if you havent had any luck yet.

Tuesday 5th
TBA.

Best of Luck Guys and dont forget to put a post up!!! :drinking1:

Hi George, my best advice is to call Geoff (0412 012 712) or Jason (0467 487 999). Geoff & Jase (BarraBase.com) have guided exclusively on the Finniss for the last 15yrs and would be 2 of the best guides in the Territory (plenty on here will support that)

They are more than willing to share their info with anyone who ask.

And you will save yourself 20 wind-ons :)

Sorry to all the others
