.........this is a very do-able trip as it's very comparable in distances to the south trip forum members did previously & fuel could be organized over at Nuguiu for those who might need it, this thread could be used to kick around a few idea's & logistic's in relation to the trip & who would be interested on a piscatorial assult on the Apsley strait i am willing to help out in which ever way i can, the added security of a group heading over will give cofidence to people who would'nt normally consider it, & once there it is the same as being in bynoe harbour, there are a multitude of creek's & rockbars that are just begging to be fished even just bottom fishing in the strait will produce jewfish, goldies ect

Apsley Trip

Post by jasonmcc »

As the one who brought the idea up in another post. Im keen as to go. Harmsey and 2rods are keen. Im sure Dodgy is keen on any trip that involves large amounts of open water :)

Got a few questions for you Back-Cast:

Is there anywhere up the straight that can be used as a base camp or is it going to be a camp in the boat trip? Also what time of the year and tides would you be reccomending?

Can you string together a bit of a plan on spots to fish BC ?

Cheers

Jason

.........yes there would be but the biggest hurdle on the subject of a camp spot is the Tiwi land council & gaining permission to go on shore the tides i would go over there on would be a spring tide period, the best fishing over there is in the build up but it fishes pretty good after the wet before the weather cools down but there is no run-off anywere except maybe dudwell & goose creek it's just like Darwin harbour & Bynoe

A tad too close to land for me but what the heck you have gotta try new things once i suppose. count me in.

Just not around the 28tish of april that's the planned return to flop top sorry spelling Flat Top weather permitting of course, hope you've got that tinny serviced Dodgy i'd hate to have to tow you home.

Speaking of Flat Top Banks anyone interested in tagging along drop me a line although still a way off, time should go fast, plan is to go from Darwin and fish the features to the northern end about 20 klms from flat top banks. Where is it i hear you ask, 90 naut miles west of 6 mile bouy. According to Alex it's Steve complains secret spot

Hey guys,

I'm keen as to head over to the islands. Jasonmcc and I have talked about
it on numerous occassions but finding the time has been the hardest part.
But if a forum trip was organised I'd definitely be up for it!

Cheers!

Hi guys, sounds like a great trip. Ill be moving to Darwin in 25 days permenantly so will be keen to tag along on these trips work permitting.

Ive got the 5.2 gs extreme and am well keen to get it wet other than the rain. A couple of hour trip on water will beat the 3 hour drive from Katherine any time.

As always, I am keen to get out for a fish... I have done the trip up Apsley straight before and it is well worth it  and not as far as you might think.

Last time we did it in a Yamaha long boat and just camped in the boat so we didn't need a permit.

I just hope that any trip we organise is on my days off or I will not be able to go

Goldcan if you are looking for a deckie for the trip let me know

If anyone was keen for a smaller trip before OCT, the run over to Robinson creek and that area is a nice 1-2day trip. and only 40kms from leaders creek..... plenty of good areas to fish too

I've got april/may/june off for fishing.A few of my mates from Melbourne have cancelled coming up this year at the last minute, therefore I have heaps of flexibilty on dates. If anyone wants a deckie I'm keen. Not sure the 25 would be suitable for the trip :sailing: :jester:
