Watch out for stingers at boat ramps.
On Wednesday when retrieving my boat, there was about a dozen box jelly fish (very small ones) at the boat ramp, East Arm. They were right up on the ramp where you would stand to crank the winch handle. I had to stand on the tow bar to get my boat in.
They still had stingers following their bell. Do they hurt at that size?
I've only been hit by the big buggers, I can tell you they hurt.

The very small ones might be Irukandji??? If so that's even worse
Thank heavens I moved to the Territory, everything I love is here!

FYI 99
Irukandji jellyfish are very small with a bell about 5 millimetres (0.20 in) to 10 millimetres (0.39 in) wide and four long tentacles, which range in length from just a few centimeters up to 1 metre (3.3 ft) in length

The description you gave STANDBY is what they looked like.
Small and come to think of it only 4 stingers.
I was only looking under my draw bar, as thats where I had to stand, and there were about a dozen moving back and forward.

This little bugger is listed as the most venomous creature in the world. Been hit by a box jelly..not good..wouldn't want to sample the little one.
Apparently has the ability to fire its stings into anything coming in contact with it.
In that case pantyhose mightn't be good enough protection.

About 10 years ago a close mate was working out on a fishing boat when they were bringing the nets up, one of the nets had an Irakandji in it which he grabbed without noticing it. 30 mins later a medivac helicopter was on it's way out to fly him in to the hospital, they were 3 hours off shore by boat. It was the most painful thing he had ever experienced in his life! He was in hospital for 2 weeks and every little movement he made he said he could feel the poison shooting up and down his spine! He's never worked on a boat again.

Re: Watch out for stingers at boat ramps.
Did the jellyfish have a round or a square head? There are a couple of different ones that only appear to have the four tenticles. One makes you really itchy (has little red streaks in it like blood vessels) the other is the Irakanji. The irakanji is really tiny and is almost impossible to see. It wasnt even thought to be found in Darwin harbour untill relativly recent times.

Re: Watch out for stingers at boat ramps.
Because they were so small, it's difficult to say if they were round or square bells.
Might head back down there this arvo and see if I can catch one for a photo.
Give me a chance to try out my new pantihose.
Sorry Matt, my trackie dacks have holes in them, like all true "territory rig" clothes.
