Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife
The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory would like to remind visitors that driving on the beach is not permitted at Tree Point Conservation Area.
Tree Point is approximately a 40km drive from Darwin and can be accessed via the Gunn Point Rd.
Visitors enjoy recreational activities such as walking along the beach, birdwatching, beach fishing and picnicking. Vehicles can be left in a designated area at the entry point. Access by boat is permitted.
The Commission would also like to ask visitors to respect the rights of nearby residences.

Just goes to show that being a loud mouthed whinges when things don't go your way is the way to get things done these days. Weak as p..s NTG. lock out the majority to keep a vocal minority quiet, good work.

Re: SHOAL BAY DURDUGA BEACH TREE POINT
I read it the other way. You have never been alowd to drive on tree point, but they gone outoftheir way to state you can do what ever else you want up there, and boats are more then welcome there.
But just be wariy of the neighbours that property starts just off the beech.
It's just confirming to the whole public what matt has already confirmed on here.
I say well done to parks for being proactive on the issue.

Re: SHOAL BAY DURDUGA BEACH TREE POINT
The commission said in their press statement to me that the land can be accessed by car so they are now clarifying that the conservation zone is vehicle-free beyond the sign.
Given that the assaults have been by people arriving in vehicles or quad bikes upon people who have arrived legally by boat, those trying to make a fuss about the vehicle access issue don't have much of a case.

I'm guessing that 95% of the tyre tracks you see on the sand spit over there are from old mate & crew from the "settlement" over the back !!

Re: SHOAL BAY DURDUGA BEACH TREE POINT
Ha ha ha yeah didn't think of that. Old mate "Angry Ant" and the crew are breaking the law by drive vehicles down the beach to abuse everyone for being on a public, Conservation Area. This keeps getting better and better.slug wrote:I'm guessing that 95% of the tyre tracks you see on the sand spit over there are from old mate & crew from the "settlement" over the back !!

If you are an indigenious person you can hunt where you like , take what you like regards of bag limit and size limits.
Does this mean they can drive where they want even on conservation land?

No it doesn't Balou! 4wd arent traditional and they aren't on traditional land. They have to abide by "white man law" when it comes to vehicles on public land.

Re: SHOAL BAY DURDUGA BEACH TREE POINT
Saw this in the paper the other week which I found interesting. Who woulda thunk .....
Turns out ol Mate has the right to hunt punters of the end of the sand spit (given of course that he is the 'private land' owner)
