Red Cliffs Help

Post by Ernie »

Will be heading down to Channel Point Reserve 22-26 Oct and we are keen to sus out the Red Cliffs area at the mouth of the Daly, amongst other stuff but am not sure exactly were they are? Any advice on the area would be appreciated as I have never been along the coast down that way before :drinking1: :drinking1:

Howdy Ernie

We went there earlier this year, great time was had.

I am assuming the cliffs you are talking about are the ones between the ramp and the Daly.

As you put in from the camp ground you just head towards the Daly, or to your left as you leave the ramp, and there are cliffs of various sizes all the way along. From memory the taller ones are nearer the Daly and on the other side of the Daly, but the ones all the way along from the Chanel Point ramp to the Daly are good too. There are plenty of little drains running off banks as the tide drops out and lots of trees, stumps and snags for fish to take your lures to. Once the tide is below about 2 metres or 1.5 the water along the cliffs is pretty shallow, so watch it a bit. you can actually see barra and jew waiting for the bait to come out of the drains..Its a great spot for soft plastics

You sort of have to launch at about 2.5 metres as the ramp dries out completey, but its a good ramp.

The pro crabbers put pots in the mangroves on the left of the ramp too, and seem to do well. .

We saw big fish chasing miles of bait in the evenings (as the wind died out) right by the ramp too.

The Daly mouth is only about 25 mins in my boat (4.5 metre with a 50 honda with 3 people) and it is pretty good there too!

The camps are pretty good too, showers loos, and fairly large sites, road was average when we went in, some pretty dastardly washouts that I took on at about 60k.s, not a good look.

When your at the ramp looking down the ramp, on the right you can get in behind the mangroves and walk along a beach (you will understand when you see it) walk along there with a barra rod and you will find a track into the mangroves to the sea. worth a cast there.

As you are probably aware there is a rich peoples community on the right of the camp. There is a deep channel there that seems to hold jew, but only held sharks for me.

There are tons of options there. Have fun and I hope this helps.

Hey Ernie,

I've fished there a bit so can give some good info to get you started. Firstly you can see I've plotted the course to Redcliffs, showing you where Cape Ford is so you don't go too far! Google Earth say's these are the coordinates:

Lat 13°27'41.65"S
Long 130° 6'33.27"E

Mate once you get close on that early morning high tide you wont miss the bastards!! Cracking sight! 8-) So the time I've fished it is on the early morning high, cant remember what the bigger tides are like but the Sat/Sun tides look good. You'll see on the sounder there are bombies underneath so trolling bombers and classics around the point works a treat for the big girls.

The other pics I've put up is for if you blokes want a closer fishing option one arvo/morning if it blows up. I've fished those Reynolds Rivers in the runoff and done really well on barra up to 80cm. I'm sure it would fish well this time of the year a well, just be careful not to get stuck on those flats out the front! Also the :croc: population was freaking insane in there last time I was there. I think they were getting away from the rough stuff out the front but seriously that day it was like Shady Camp in it's halcyon days except in a small creek! That 2 Creek I've once before and got a few fish there. If you zoom in on google you see there are 2 creeks running out which makes it not a bad haunt and its nice and close to camp.

Then finally you'll see the pic with Maccasin's on it. Once that tide starts going out the most awesome oyster rocks become exposed and you can troll up some big big barra 8-) Once again mornings are best here cause you need the calm water. Also tell the lads if they want some awesome landbased fishing, jump onto the beach at the boat ramp and walk about 5-10 mins and you'll finally see a pebble path that takes you through the mangroves out to those same rocks. Well worth the treck!

Also theres a jewie hole a km or so off the front of the houses which produces consistently, just look for the boats!

Goodluck mate hope you get one of those slappers!

cheers,

freddy :drinking1:

Top info Freddy and Chris. Cheers for Sharing.

Ernie, do you know where the end of the Daly River closer zone is or anybody else for that matter. It would be a Bl00dy shame to see fishos get nailed for an honest mistake.
