Pococks Beach/West Alligator Head

Post by itzdkid »

Hey all,

I've been keeping an eye on this forum for a few months now and decided it was about time i joined. Dodgy put me on to it.

Anywho.

I'm looking at going out to Pococks beach on the queens birthday long weekend (if the roads open) and am now looking for a bit more info, its a bit of a way to go to catch nothing. Now, is it worth dragging a boat out there? or could i happily kill two days exploring/beach fishing/drinking? also the two holes/billabongs on the way out, worth a detour and a flick?

Also reguarding camping- whats the site like any facilities/shade etc?

ANY info would be tops,

Cheers fella's :smoking:

Welcome to the FFF itzdkid

Two Mile & Four Mile Holes are most definitely worth a look, especially Four Mile. Dunno what the track in is like, last time I went to Four Mile it was an absolute abortion!
Some big fish come from there especially at night on the Ess Bend.

Gday itzdkid,
the track in is still closed at the moment, if the track is open by that time it would definatly be worth taking your boat out :catch: there's some great fishing just offshore but the fishing from shore can be just as good for barra and salmon  I was over there yesterday and the reefs and holes were loaded with goldies and jew :fishy: fished from my boat which we launched from SA boat ramp just for a day trip. the camping there is very good

i have the same idea mate. when the road opens?? you need 2 cars to launch a boat up at pococks. there is water and a cold shower up there and i recon its a top spot but the track in is BAD  some good camping spots right on the beach. was talking to dodgy not long ago about doing a run out there soon.

 harmsey

I have a mate who makes it his yearly trip to head to Pococks, He makes the trip from the bridge, Loads up the camping gear and plenty of juice. He said he has done the trip by road, and swore he would never do it again. I spose if you got in when it first opens, it wouldnt be to bad.
I fished 4 mile last year, and the road in was not to bad, but coming out, i was amazed he trailor made it out unscathed. cant wait for it to open thou, one of my favorite camping places the 4mile.
Cheers,
Brad

Not sure if the road will be open by then. Big floodplain at the end takes ages to dry.
Fishes well from the shore or fantastic from a boat if it is under 5 metres and you take it very easy. Another car is also recommended for the beach launch.
Has fresh water showers and toilets and plenty of shady trees. Also alot of mozzies so keep that in mind.
Have to catch up and put a plan together Harmsey.

Btw Itzdkid. Who are you????
