Perons islands.

Post by Gilly »

Howdy.

I'm heading down to the perons this mon and doing an over nighter.
Was wondering if any one has the rough gps coordinate for the jewie ledge there and if it fishes better on low or high tide change.and if any one has any advice in general for the area.Planning on chasing reef fish and would like to try for some jewies and Macs also.Is sail city a good spot for macs?also best place to anchor up for a sleep?
Cheers Gilly

You can't miss the jewie ledge, it starts a little south of Channel Point community and runs north, you will see the sloping bottom rise quickly as you move towards shore. Sail City has plenty of macks.

Gilly most likely that there will be westerly winds late afternoon and into the evening. I would anchor up in lee of the north island. There is around 4 m movement so dont go in too close. I have added a pic with the close points you need dropped as a pin.

G'day guys.
We'll we had a successful trip Monday tue.
Launched at Dundee first thing mon morning and started making our way to blaze.Came across a bust up of tuna and started throwing out chromies on the barra rods.
The next 20 min was mayhem with both thumbs on the spools slowing down the torpedoes.we ended up with a couple of 10-14kgs in the boat.
Then proceeded to blaze but could only catch sharks so we started trolling in shallow down to the perons.
Every 5 minutes we had a fish on and we picked up a few thumping blue salmon,a couple of queries and to our surprise some 2 Spanish and 2 grey macs. Not huge macs but still good fun.
Shot down to perons and fished the jewie ledge on tide change.
Picked up some plenty of great goldies but no jewies.
Headed down to South Island in a bay just before dark to try for some barra.
Huge amount of barra everywhere but tried every lure and plastic combo under the sun but only had a few hits and that was it.
Few beers and a feed then headed back to Jew ledge for change of tide.
Had a couple of big fish on but could only get bl..dy Powertail into the boat.
Called it quits after a successful big day n crashed out on the boat.
We had to be back earlyish tues so we made tracks and stopped to trawl the little Finniss for an hour.No luck there so we made tracks.
Thanks to everyone for tips and advice. It was my first trip down there and will defiantly be done again.
My phone managed to take a swim after a few beers and excitement of fish on board so no pics yet.have a few on camera I will throw up soon.

Sounds like you had fun Gilly

Good stuff
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!
