NT vs QLD

Post by ronje »

[FFF Admin note - the first five posts here were split off a weather thread. This NT vs QLD thread was created to accommodate these posts :D ]

Yep. Same thing here.

But I'll bet that there are few 30-40 cm fish around.

The metries aren't part of the spawning, recruitment or run-off barra.

See what the wet brings and that'll determine what recruitment will be like.

At the moment, there's a hole in the barra sizes (non-recruitment in early 2019). That hole will move along to increasing sizes each year with the missing fish for that period.

I recall the Roper suffering the same thing in 2009 or 2010. One year there were few 80cm fish. Next year there were few 90cm, then followed by few 1m fish the year after. Probably a poor recruitment year (poor wet) around 2005 or so. Can't remember the exact years.

Its not often that the NT gets successive poor wets is it?

We've had 2 successive years (so far 2018 - 2019). Few small fish around.

But we could still take you guys apart in any competition despite that.

I was a bit too succinct in that comment Ronje :D

Wasn’t talking recruitment, only that Barra are now appearing again in numbers after a ‘drought’ and plenty getting caught due to a few build up showers. Tourists who have never caught one are nailing 1m+ in some places which is bl..dy good to hear and harbour fish are around in good numbers too.

‘But we could still take you guys apart in any competition despite that.’

No doubt when they’re all in one pond.

That's okay.

We put up with lots of poor wets. Probably more than you guys do. The last 2 years have seen very poor recruitment so we have to try harder to catch fish. You guys are spoilt rotten up there.

Simply put, that gives us bragging rights as better fishermen. (so we think anyway).

Who tagged over 800 barra in the Roper and also in the Daly to get the research there back on track after years of NT indifference? Qld.

Who does the tagging for the MDF? Qld.

Who does all the tagging research in the MacArthur River/King Ash Bay area? Qld.

Who blitzed the Barra Nationals over the last 2 years? Qld

Who gave up on the Nationals this year after 3 days because it was all too hard with a poor wet and retreated to the bar? NT.

You fellas must recognise a challenge when you see one. Here it is. The first step in a challenge.

We'll nominate a team from CQ (or 2 maybe) to represent CQ and to take part in one of Matt's barra, threadie, spanish, jew competitions. Or maybe as a side comp using his rules.

You guys nominate a team from NT (or 2 maybe) to represent NT.

We've got a nominee here willing to talk to your guy (should you take up the challenge and nominate somebody) and Matt to organise it.

Up for a challenge?

Wash yr mouth out with soap, Ninja!!!!

Pond indeed. But this pond is bigger than the Daly, Roper and Adelaide combined AND we've had 3 failures out of our last 4 wets.

NT only had 1 failure and everybody threw themselves on the floor mumbling " We'll all be rooned" said Hanrahan "before the year is out".

Hope somebody noticed the challenge though. Do you guys need a Haka of some sort to go with it?

Somebody will be in touch about details if you guys don't squib out.

Simply put, No. I’m just continuing with the banter and It has been said that when one mentions the weather they really want to start something else. :D

First 3 Who’s - All skills honed in the past from within the NT and a reputation deservedly built to be asked back perhaps?
Fourth Who - Well done. If I travelled all that way I’d fish hard and to the end also.
Fifth Who - Sooks, maybe, but they made for less traffic to help the Qld’s chances of a win for a change (ouch).

Pond indeed. But this pond is bigger than the Daly, Roper and Adelaide combined...

I appreciate your honesty but still bragging? :D

Haven't seen any offers to take up the challenge.

All shy are we? Or waiting to see if there's a wet to make life easy again?

We have a team ready to go (Mitch and Gerry) and another forming.

Still no sign of rain here and prediction not hopeful.

Upstream of barrage is down to 85% and dropping.

Adversity breeds champions.

Sullo definitely has the jewfish side sorted.

With two dam rounds next year it might give the Queenslanders some incentive, seems they need it :D

Sign up for the FFF comp is the plan, Trent.

To give a bit of spice that we'll nominate a team of 2 from here to go head-to-head with a team from the NT. Like a comp within a comp. No team prize apart from bragging rights.

Individuals within the teams still eligible for the comp prizes.
