More people could probably go if it was in the harbour. Could always make it "remote" Little West Arm. Might be able to get the Barra Botel out there since it is moored off Darwin now.

The weekend of the 20-21 would be good in the local area (harbour)...
on the 21st I have offered to take Matty and his missus out for a fish (poor bugger is getting a hard time about not getting her any fish) so it could work in well.

According to replies then the harbour seems to be the favoured choice, but the poll reflects the Mouth of the South. I would ask if anyone is interested in attending that hasn't voted then to do so soon. At this stage it looks like the Mouth of the South is a goer. Having never been there I need the guys in the know to post some ideas of timings etc. I would think go down sometime Friday and return Sunday to allow us mere mortals enough time to return home in time for work.
I'm in a similar situation to Jonesy where I'm not going to have the range or speed to get all the way down so I for one would be looking for a ride.
Cheers

im in where ever it is. i voted for the south as its a great spot for an overnighter.
as for the range problem?? if there is enough boats then i am sure somepeople would cart fuel down for others. i could carry an extra 40lt for someone if required.
tides are good for down there too!! being neaps i wouldnt imagine that the fishing in the harbour/bynoe wouldnt be that flash but that would allow more time for
either way its a great idea
mica beach is a goodspot to camp so too is bare sandy???? too many beautiful spots to choose from

Harmsey,
How far is it down there, I've got a 25hp with a flat out max speed of 35kmh.
If someone is happy to carry some fuel then that'd make it a bit easier for sure. I'm happy to go with the flow, just keen to go fishing and finally put some names to faces and really keen to get this off the ground.
Cheers

I reckon you could do it in 60 litres Temp if you went light as possible. I can do the Rookery and back in about 22-24 litres with just me in the boat and dropping back to 3/4 pace. I think the Rookery is about halfway(others will know?). Be looking at 2-2.5 hours minimum in the little tinnies?
The other problem is if it's windy,we might get utterly smashed. Mornings should be like glass, but that arvo seabreeze, does it chop it up down there? Also if we get hit by a storm uh oh. Sounds like a challenge...

I say forget the mouth of the south. Too hard for the guys with the little boats. Bare sandy is an awesome place to camp, way nicer than sleeping in your tinnie. Even though it looks remote/isloated it has plenty of sheltered waters and is not that far. Its around 35km if you launch from crab claw. Have a think about that.
Cheers

Why not tow the boats into Pococks. Can beach launch there and has plenty of camping and toilets and showers.jasonmcc wrote:I say forget the mouth of the south. Is mouth of West Alligator and has lots of good headlands for barra plus the jew reefs a couple of kms offshore. Caught barra off the beach there.
