Dundee where to get live bait from the shore

Post by Taint »

Hey All,

I am looking at heading down to dundee tomorrow to fish from the rocks with my brother. Are there any good spots to get some livies from, either creeks or beach spots? I haven't fished down that way before (Relatively new to Darwin) and it'd be good to hook up to some good fish while we are down there.

Cheers,

Adam

Just be care full collecting live bait in a cast net at the moment. Fishing last week out Dundee way my mate got a solid sting off the fishing line on his leg. No vinegar on the boat either I forgot that the wife used it last trip. Then we saw a stinger at the ramp too

Never mind the vinegar, no proof it helps. It may actually cause harm. As for livebait, look on google earth for creek access, there are a few spots

Seems the stingers are everywhere. Got a heap of them in the cast net at buff creek the other day. Almost every mullet got hit in the net and died before I got them in the water.

Any roads to creeks I should look for in particular?

Along the beach on the way to the Finniss River is a good spot. Other spots are the creek north of Stingray Head which is south of Dundee

had no luck on the hardbodies down there, the softies were getting us nothing but rock cod and parrot fish/tusk fish. Not sure what it was.

Threw out some livies that I caught on a small hook and strip bait around the rocks and my brother picked up a nice queeny, a touch over 80cm and very aerobatic which was awesome for him as a non-fisho.

Got bitten off by sharks on the rest or dragged around rocks and snapped leaders, but thats fishing for you.

That parrot fish/tusk fish was more then likely a bluebone which is one of the best eating fish around!!

Bluebone? I tossed him back, won't make that mistake again if they are that good eating. for a small fish it had some weight to it and felt quite solid
