Im 60 years young FYI. Not old at all and not wrong either.

Sand and mud bars move about , depending on how much water comes down the river during and after the wet .
Been hung up on a mud bar in the middle of the night coming back from Mini mini creek one time a big struggle to get the boat off ,got eaten alive by mossies.

Hmm, ive always known it as mud island as well. I did some research (guided the boat any way) on the grass beds with people from the museam 10 years ago down there and they told me it was mud island then. the ranger at the time was there as well and he called it mud island. Perhaps it has changed over time in what people call it. Wouldnt be hard from word of mouth.
