Yes a bit of a Oxymoron..
Just makes you question there motives on here which i think is what the point of this post is...
in case people think its just about invading their so called privacy..
which i think half the people on here are mistaking this thread to be about...
its about holding dick..heads accountable for the bull...poop they post on here...

I beg to Differ.. i don't think Matt has our details at all apart from an IP Address which if you know what you are doing can be changed by using a Proxy Server..
As Lutjanis Arguementalist points out it is possible to rort the system. I know people on here with multiple User Names. So you could give Matt any name, as others have.

So I can see no advantage in giving a name - so voted no

This is interesting. I don't have anything but a hotmail account that I can link to a forum, and place very little on my facebook account except my name. I believe there has to be some level of disinformation in my profile simply to keep my and my family's safety in the virtual world, it is all too common now to find that databases are hacked and all information exposed.

I also think I should have the decision as to what I share and what I release, for whatever reason I think is important to me.

Here's a site that has been through three different refits over the years, back more than a decade. In this last form they no longer demand that users use their real name however most still do. I've got to know a few of them personally over the years and names match both on and off the field. Doesn't seem to do us too much harm and good transparency.

I changed my name on here due to a forum change a few years ago that locked me out. My current user name is what 95% of people know me as.

Seem as this has all come about due to people having a cyber fight, didn't the forum have section for exactly that? Maybe any thing that turns into a "cyber blue" should be moved into that section?

No such thing as you know

I recently started up a youtube account so i could post some videos.
. Next thing, Google asked me if I wanted to link my other email addresses.
Not just the Google related ones - All of them that I've ever had! Some not even google related, bigpond, Hotmail etc. etc.
Bit scary

I just hope that Matt does the right thing with my details. If not, i know people in Tassie.

Interesting read.

Remember the crazes society went through over the years. Hula hoops, yo yos, push-bikes with big handlebars and low seats, cb radio, mobile phones.

Internet forums are a written version of CB radio. Even has a bit of the voyeurism aspect thrown in. CB users were all worried that the world was going to come to an end if cb practices didn't change for the better.

Think we're all better off worrying about something real.

Like..... Wish you'd get rid of the eyes peeping through the wall ,Backcast. Think my bl..dy mother-in-law has caught up whenever I see it. Now THAT would be something real to worry about.

Ok, to settle this & make everyone comfortable this is what I propose. It is a fair system, same rules for all - I just require a little Information to get started.

All I need is everybody's real name, DOB, address, pin numbers and all bank account details. If anyone is dating/married to - a super model I will need naked photos of them too. Oh, and let me know where you keep your spare keys....

"I'm not saying to make all those details public but at least they should be available to the police if they need them...
what you display publicly is entirely up to you as a participant in the forum...
maybe i should have explained that a bit better..??"

"anonymity is only important to people trying to hide behind it" WHY!!!!!

"Get rid of the pretenders" Come off it.....now we are branded "pretenders"

You are one for the books. All of a sudden there's talk of Police???????? What ever the hell for??????????????? Did someone call another person a dickhead? That would obviously justify Police involvement. Perhaps you should live in the US that great bastion of freedoms where you cannot fart without being charged.
Because I/others dont want to disclose our true identity on a public forum DOES not make me/us a criminal it just makes you someone who wishes to remain private.
The so called government and private concerns have enough of our personal details...details hgathered in most cases either without our knowledge or permission. Every day we get bombarded with junk emails and wonder where our details came from. :bonk:

If You wish to disclose your details fine go ahead BUT dont go forcing me to do the same.

I would much rather leave this forum should this draconian edict come into force on FFF.

every time someone on here has copped a bagging and had the p..s taken out of them it's been because they deserve it, and it makes for some of the best threads ever...pity we can't just sign a form absolving FFF of any responsibility as long as we promise not to be a cock and or a nancy boy in which case getting a gobfull is par for the course
