So another week had come and gone ..

It was now mid April almost bl..dy hell. Where's it all going? I loaded up the rig and a following a quick trip up to the servo was soon on the road...
Dust billowed off the muddies as our wet was almost done a few weeks ago and not a drop of moisture was anywhere to be seen along the edges of the dirt track. Soon the familiar shady trees of my campsite from the last 20 years came into view and minutes later i was backing the bike down the ramps. Supprised to see it still pretty flooded out here i loaded the spin rod and a few drinks into the backpack, I locked up the ute and headed off for the river with the bike exhaust note shattering the rivers silence and scattering the resident birds as i tore through the scrub the track was just visible and only cattle had been on it since last year. A few stumps and branches littered the ground post cyclone but I simply went around them.

The track across the floodplains was under 150mm of lake stretching to the horizon in quite a few areas but the bike made easy work of it traveling the 8km plus of blacksoil easily used 4wd a few spots but not that bad ... different story in a car though I'd say even a modified suzi would've been in trouble in the creeks.

Soon I was at my destination a feeder ck I'd cut to spec with the chainsaw last year .

Quickly I assembled the 2pc st croix and cut my way through the scrub and debris in the riverbed deposited by the floods creating another new track into the pool for the year. A bit of final spot mods then i got into position. I sent out a brand new rapala xrap 12 . 2 casts later it was gone barra and all .. got a good look at this one too and called it as 90 plus :banghead: dammit. 40lb or higher recommended here. Retied a leader and got another lure same colour xrap 12 again. .. 2 more casts then bugger it same thing unfolded .. spewin. :banghead: :banghead:

Rerigging again. Fish 2 me nil..

Cast only a metre out playing it safe this time .. clicked the ci4 into gear and bang on to barra number 3 for the trip ... Only small around 70 and after a bit of un snagging from a clump of pandanus landed it.

Yay. .. consolation prize i guess. :applause: But nothing on the bigger fish still wearing my other 2 12cm xraps as a souvenir of their victory. :bonk:

A couple more hookups and a snag only metres out reqiring a custom bamboo pole extraction tool saw the afternoon almost done. I did get this one back luckily. To finish the day off a storm opened up overhead and not long afterwards i was practically soaked . I ran my old track in another few km to the next set of rapids even though they were still submerged mainly to wear in the track for less prickles next trip as the speargrass all through my shirt was doing my head in. I loaded back up after blasting through the new kamfari racetrack I'd created and even stopped in for a counter meal T bone on the way home after driving back in through a hectic lightning storm for around half an hour ...

Pesky grass seeds, great shots of the water should see a few more baz out of their plenty of flow at least till the dry really settles in
