Ally it is sign posted on all access road into the place as its a legal requirement and is in the news paper also but I haven't seen signs or adds in the paper of any aerial culls !!
yep, thats an interesting one as I have spoken to rangers, the operations manager and another person involved with tourism out there and no mention was made at all about any culling in the 2 Mile Hole area.
If it was the case then they would gladly use it as an excuse to take the heat off them

You just claim the place was obviously open as there were no signs saying it was closed and the gate was open. .
Don’t know about “trick” when I pleaded my innocents down the Daly the other year because I drove to the boat ramp when the road was allegedly closed didn’t help, copped a fine regardless.

And Olfella hard working public servant yes, high level no. Still just another underpaid, overworked, abused worker.

cheers
Mate, I was a public servant for 35 years and worked my butt off until I came to my senses....................but we ain't here to talk about that

The Daly river road is a different scenario to tracks and roads through parks and private property as it comes under government jurisdiction. If there are no signs saying the track is closed and the gate is open then there is no legal address the plaintiff can take. I know that for certain as I ....um ...know people who have ............well..
Even though, I am surprised that you copped a fine if there were no barracades or signs up anywhere ( at the turn -off from the old Stuart Highway maybe ?? ) saying the road was closed. How are you meant to know it was ??
I would have contested that one in court

Thats what I was saying , it comes under government jurisdiction so the cops act using the principle that ignorance of the law is no excuse as it was probably gazetted.......they just write you up and pass it onto the relevant authorities.

Whereas state or Territory cops have no concerns about tracks in National Parks ( its a Federal jurisdiction ) or private property. Those roads into Kakadu bush areas can open anytime and without warning. They can be listed on their website as still being closed up to at least 12 hours after they have been open. So to be driving past and see the gate open and the signs down is nothing out of the ordinary even though you were informed it was closed the day before. That is why it is pointless for them to go ahead and try to prosecute.

Having said all this I wouldn't be playing any games out there this weekend, word is that they are p- - ed off and keeping an eye out. I rang this morning and wasn't well recieved.......yes it is still closed and looks being so for awhile

Yes its getting crazy. Really Kakadu National Park don't actually want anyone to be able to get near anything, if they had their way it would be just a few restricted (read businesses who have high level links to the area) that would be allowed in and the public would be totally excluded unless they were part of an organised tour.

Whilst the Kakadu & Uluru National park management & board take the cake for the MOST restrictive and unreasonable and plain stupid restrictions of any national park in Australia, our other National parks are trying hard to see if they can stop people too.

I would urge you all to go to the Save the Bush page and voice your concern as you will need a permit (at a cost and probably unobtainable anyway) to leave Palmerston or Darwin town boundries soon if the changes over the last 15 years keep up at the present rate.

LIKE I STATED IN A PREVIOUS THREAD !!!
MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS GOING PAST THERE, THERE WAS A RANGERS CAR LOADED UP TO THE HILTON WITH FISHING GEAR OPENING THE GATE FOR A F^&*KING GUIDE BOAT!
I DECLARE JIHAD ON THE PUBLIC SECTOR! :fubird:

im sick to death of being in the "lucky" "free" country that legislates the fudge out of everything and doesnt let you be free at all.
if anyone takes the above out of context and metions afghanistan, i may just loose it and committ some much needed population cull, you have been warned :fishy:

Can you give us a few more details about this mate and I will hit park management up with it, you know.......... time, time of day etc etc.
I have a very reliable source who came a 'permanent' camp on the South when the back road to Aligator Billabong was first opened . He reported it to Park Headquarters who were most concerned and said it will be acted upon immediately. Months later he came across the senior ranger for that region who knew nothing about it. He was either lying or management didn't act upon it.
That article in Tuesdays NT News has had big affect on management I have been told
Matt has been chasing up the operations manager for comment but no one is getting back to him
There is a lot of cr.p and it would appear favoured treatment going on in that park that needs exposing.
The more info' I can collect the better as I will act on it , trust me

Thanks Doug that was exactly what I did I rang and asked the Sargent to pull the ticket as I was not a mind reader. Stiff was the response it wasn't him that closed the road he was just there to Police it!

Don't disagree with the basis of your argument Ollfella. I guess when I pull the pin in the next year or so I'll be there waving the plackards too.

I grew up locked on the other side of the fence and enjoyed the lack of visitors for 6mts of the year.
A mans boat is a sign of his strengths and weaknesses???? (and wealth)

2 Mile Hole Billabong Closed 08/06/12 Inspected yesterday and still at 0.75m water depth in two crossings. Bad erosion as well, almost 0.5m in depth requiring repairs.

They did call me back, but I wasn't here, when I called back, they weren't there.

You would think they could afford a couple of truck loads of rocks to bring it from 75cm deep to 50cm deep or whatever.

I guess the money is being spent on a few federal fatcat's huge salary etc.

closed to stop further damage? as .75 probably isnt to deep nowdays for a 4wd, especially when you consider the depth of cahills is when most people cross it.
