Ah ha Seano, you've been around mate !?

Thats the old trick some blokes have been doing for years. What you do is take the 'closed' signs down and 'open' the gate and drive in at your leisure knowing there is SFA they can do about it.
You just claim the place was obviously open as there were no signs saying it was closed and the gate was open.

I was also told to move my camp last year because I was outside the designated area by about 30 metres and .......dear oh dear , to close to the water. I refused. The ranger just got in his truck and drove off
yes, I would love to organise a group of blokes to do what you suggest but once you involve more than a couple of people it comes undone.

This is a great post Olfella good onya.

If these people are deliberately leaving these areas closed so they don't have to do as much maintenance work when there is no need to be closed, then they are abusing the trust that's been put in place to run the park for everyone to use.

Hopefully this stirs them up a bit Ill bet they are reading it.

Guys, can the same be said about the Yellow Waters Boat Ramp?? The road is closed with a gate, however they are bus-ing tour groups through there everyday....
No reason why the boat ramp should not be open to the public. My thinking is Cooinda dont want the boat traffic in there because of their tours.

Was at Yellow Waters last week for a school camp, the water level was still very high. Could hardly see the Boat ramp.

Can you give us a few more details about this mate and I will hit park management up with it, you know.......... time, time of day etc etc.
I have a very reliable source who came a 'permanent' camp on the South when the back road to Aligator Billabong was first opened . He reported it to Park Headquarters who were most concerned and said it will be acted upon immediately. Months later he came across the senior ranger for that region who knew nothing about it. He was either lying or management didn't act upon it.
That article in Tuesdays NT News has had big affect on management I have been told
Matt has been chasing up the operations manager for comment but no one is getting back to him
There is a lot of cr.p and it would appear favoured treatment going on in that park that needs exposing.
The more info' I can collect the better as I will act on it , trust me

Good onya olfella, what a legend! I can just imagine a big protest at the gates of Kakadu being shown on TV, placards and all saying things like 'Kakadon't'! You would get tour companies participating, as well as fisherman. The media would love it. Maybe AFANT would be worth a try, although they probably don't have much/any influence over the feds...

There has been a push to get rec fishers out of YW for at least 20 years. Once that gate went in each year it has been opening later year.
I can remember even before the resort was there the pub manager used to tell us to make the best of it as our time out here is numbered.

Don't get me started about those firken tour boats...............

OK olfella where and when do we get together to check out the barrabongs. Do I need to take my heavy duty bolt cutters? Just in case I cannot get the safety chain off my towbar, as the padlock has a tendency to rustup solid. Seriously though it might be a good idea for a large group of us to drive in and check out the scenery of OUR national park with NT News and local television crews to check out the hellish and extremely tough 4x4 track to Two Mile Hole or some other closed barrabong who knows we might even find a guide or two as well as a ranger or two fishing in the closed barrabongs. Just to make sure it is safe for the rest of us of course, so when they finally open it up in a month or two's time we can all drive in there with our Porsches, HSVs and FPVs and all other ultra low riders etc and enjoy the driving experience.
Anyway enough of a rant good on ya olfella see you out there, still have to beat last years sortie of over fourty legal barra in an hour!

Guys a friend went out there the other day and was stopped upon entering. He was informed by park rangers that the reason it is still closed is because there is a chopper crew in there hunting the feral pigs. They are still shooting and obviously it's closed for safety until that is over at the end of June. It's meant to finish around the 28th.

Don’t know about “trick” when I pleaded my innocents down the Daly the other year because I drove to the boat ramp when the road was allegedly closed didn’t help, copped a fine regardless.

And Olfella hard working public servant yes, high level no. Still just another underpaid, overworked, abused worker.

cheers
