This is all about people not getting targeted for being d!ckheads.
Partly about that, but it's much more about legal safeguards.
Like I said, the Australian publishing companies with the biggest legal teams are using queue moderation. They would be doing it this way following legal advice.

Yes, there is a time limit on edits, after which you can PM me if you want to change something. Prevents Swiss-cheesing of the forum, threads that no longer makes sense etc.

FFF wants people to OWN there comments and there posts BUT after a while FFF wants to own them??
So the comments I (or others) make are no longer mine after a set time??? So if I wanted to take my keyboard and mouse and go home and remove myself from the forum all my posts would stay??

It's the way it works on most forums. It prevents threads from being trashed, and other people's comments losing context.
If someone wants to leave the forum I can set their profile to Guest so the threads still make sense, but their former user name no longer appears as the title on the posts, if they so wish.
I would remove or edit individual posts if asked and there were fair reason - legalities, changing personal circumstances, employment issues etc.
