Can you get all the smell out of a toxic eskie?

Post by Matt Flynn »

You left squid and two fish in the eskie in the boat for two weeks. Can you ever get all the smell out of the eskie, or is it forever tainted like a car that contained a corpse?

1) High pressure wash; then
2) wash out with vinegar; then
3) let dry; then
4) wipe down with eucalyptus oil
If it still smells burn it.

Do it all the time :D
Wash first (obviously) with boat wash or other detergent
let dry in sunlight
spray some vanilla fridge spray over the entire internal surface
leave closed for a few days
then open to the refreshing odour of vanilla flavoured squid

Fill it with chlorine and water mix leave overnight and repeat the next day if it does not work leave it outside on the front lawn and someone will pinch it and then it is their problem.

Couple months ago I was prepping for a trip when I noticed my little six pack esky that I sometimes use for frozen bait was still sitting in the boat from the last trip many weeks ago.

I ever so carefully extracted the esky from the boat and walked on egg shells over to the wheely bin and placed it with great delicacy at the bottom of the bin...

Could have attempted to clean but I had lots of those eskies sitting around...

Of course...

Contact the engineers from this job http://fishingterritory.com/trips-gone- ... 33636.html and ask them to find a solution.

So simple....

Scrub out with bicarb soda, rinse, scrub again and tip in a bottle of vinegar, leave in the sun for the day, rinse. leave open till next trip.
Domestos will get most stains out, just use bicarb/vinegar soak after. Takes the bleach smell away.
Not good to use domestos on clothing..unless you're into the tie-dyed look. :)
Take the cat crabbing. :naughty:

No............ I've tried everything, bleach, chlorine, vinger you name it, smells like a hospital for a week then back to rotten fish smell. It then becomes a bait esky and one you lend out to special friends.

Now, I use large heavy duty bags for my one in the boat.

Wash out with suds then wipe with vinegar then put and open bottle of vanilla on the bottom and close the lid for a few hours then take the vanilla out. Works everytime for me :-)
It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

“Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime”

"Soon after I embraced the sport of angling I became convinced that I should never be able to enjoy it if I had to rely on the cooperation of the fish."

The question was leaving bait in the esky for two weeks, in which I have done, that 41lt esky will never be the same. I even cleaned it three times over three day leaving it in direct sunlight after each time. The third time brought a five litre bottle of bleach poured the whole lot in filled to the top with water, and left it for 24hrs, poured it out on the poor NOW dead grass and gave it another scrub, left in the sun for a further week. Two years later my esky still stinks like cra*p.
