I hate to say it but things like boat rego and fishing licenses help pay for these things, look at WA with their licensing, artificial reefs, boat ramp upgrades, better research for more appropriate bag limits etc. enonomies of scale will play a part too in this.

Yeah but in the West you need to be a Philadelphia lawyer to understand what licence to catch what species in what area, etc, and a hire an administrative assistant to keep on top of it all ......

Yup, it got to the point where I could hardly get my head around it all, and when you do, they change it. Vastly different rules in every state, a nightmare if you are touring.

Perhaps a national blanket rule that you can have 10kg of fillets in your creel each, catch them any way you want except dynamite or poison :D :D :D

Might not be good for garfish stocks though

Ive been saying it for ages. The more income they can generate by rego and licencing the better.
Tassie is a great example as well. On my form down the rei nominated my local fishing hole and within 6 mths, had a new ramp and jetty. – remember that there isn’t much tide movements on inland lakes.
We could learn by other states cock ups and get a standard licence

I won't argue about the WA bag limits, it takes some time to get your heads around with spieces limits and overall group limits but the fees payed in the licenses and boat registration do upgrade many facilities. All that mattered was 3 reds, 1 trout and something else tasty each then go and catch billfish :)
