Gunn Point Road realignment
Gunn Point Road realignment, work valued at $44m or so ... https://tendersonline.nt.gov.au/Tender/Details?id=5168
Road will be moved closer to Shoal Bay to get it off Koolpinyah Station land.
Lotta money for a fishing road!

This is just for the design and documentation, not the building of the road which is proposed for this dry season. But it is proposed to be bitumen. If you don't have access to the tender you can see the route on google earth running parallel with Gun Point Road.

I was going to post the map in the tender document but it says it is all commercial-in-confidence, which is a bit odd seeing it is a publicly available tender.

I think there is a major development planned for out that way that we haven’t yet been made fully aware of. I’ve heard a few different rumours.

Development to related to the sea dragon project , there will be 2 x 3 bedroom houses and a prawn hatchery . Apparently all the hatchery operations will be carried out inside sheds .
There is a detailed write up on the Litchfield Shie council website . Go to the agenda for council meeting Dec 2017 page 160 .

Something to look forward to
Hit link and down load fact sheet - future port, heavy industry, housing
MORE POLLUTION AND PEOPLE Can't wait

Mow it all down for money, money and more money
I'm guessing CU in the NT will have a different meaning in the future.

Re: Gunn Point Road realignment
At the very least a sealed road and boat ramp out that way would open up a whole new fishing ground to larger trailer boats. Won't happen for the next 15 years though. Has to be promised in three separate elections by both parties before any action. Look at Dundee ramp and Shady.

Re: Gunn Point Road realignment
The New Road has very little to do with fishing, the main aim of the new road is to open Glyde Point up to development and heavy industry.
One of the plans is to realign the road with the utilities corridor that comes in from the back of the new Hospital and across the top of Howard River Park then down near the quarry and on to Glyde point but new bridges need to be built for that plan.
The initial plan is to upgrade the current road according to the consultation group undertaking the community consultation which occurred in OCT 2017
The aim of the road is to facilitate development of Glyde point, including the prawn farm hatchery which sounds like the first of many things that could be built out there.
The other ideas that have been around for some time include a new port, heavy industry supported by a train line next to the new road, a synthetic gas plant of some sort and possibly petrochemical processing as well and there have been whispers of an American Navy/Marine base in the area
The Darwin Regional Plan use from 2015 has the map showing the train line and port. As someone has already mentioned they are not new ideas but maybe starting to get a bit closer to reality!!
https://dlpe.nt.gov.au/darwin-regional- ... -plan-2015
The people putting the spin on it for the Government and calling it community consultation are this mob:

Interestingly the initial community consultation had focused on the new road being great for fishing and recreational, and did not really focus on the bigger picture which is heavy industry.
While most will agree a new road will be great for access, some will not agree with the long term plan for development and heavy industry around this pristine are largely untouched coastal area!!!
The new road and possible rail link is bad news for people who own homes and live in the Howard River Park area, the prospect of a new major road and rail link is something many people will not be happy about being built near their homes.

Blues Holes and Glyde Point from the air today (around bottom of the tide)
I think it would be a real shame to see this area developed

Re: Gunn Point Road realignment
Well said Ernie and Newfisherman. What a shame this area that is absolutely PIVOTAL to the health of Darwin harbour and the natural restocking of barra. Not only barra but all fish species. This area should be declared a NATURE RESERVE for the future. There are billabongs teaming with birdlife, critical floodplains that need protecting NOT MOWED DOWN, filled in and built on. Pick another area that is far less important to the environment. We are so stupid to destroy such an eco system, and to then call it progress highlights just how stupid the human race is. Sure we need to develop, grow, provide jobs, industry etc at the expense of the enviroment, thats life BUT to develope and destroy such a unique area, a nursery for all fishes, birds, Geese, wildlife in general is SUCH A WASTE OF AN AREA THAT SHOULD BE PROTECTED NOT KILLED.

Re: Gunn Point Road realignment
I've always said the area is unique. It should be a marine park.
Looks like the purpose of the road is being kept quiet.

Re: Gunn Point Road realignment
Leave it how it is one of my favourite roads to go out for the weekend. If u don't feel comfortable driving on the dirt don't drive on it. If they put bitumen on every Tom, dick and harry will be there leaving all there rubbish and cr.p they'd ruin it!!
