I have a question on legal matters concerning the raffle of crabs and Barra for a no profit organisation
If was to go out and catch a couple of crabs and a Barra or two if lucky then run a raffle at a fund raising do for a football club is this breaking the law or not.
All money is going to the football club

Think you would be in trouble re the Fisheries Act.
Also, fundraiser raffles aren't as simple as you would think. I looked into it a few years ago as I wanted to raise money for fishing projects, from vague memory you have to form a group with a committee etc to get a permit.
They might turn a blind eye to small raffles, but not if fish and crabs are involved.
Might be a club organiser on here who can shed more light on raffle requirements.

I would think that if the crabs and barra were purchased you would come under a lot less grief. Technically it is no different to a meat tray or bouquet that way. The alternative would be for a voucher or the like from Mr Barra or one of the other wholesalers.
As for the raffle itself, I'm not sure, there are limitations as Matt has mentioned.

What if you "purchased" barra from someone who caught them, and you payed them with beer? Then technically they've been "paid for".

Pretty sure you can't barter fish, but it's probably a big part of the Darwin economy nonetheless.

Yeah, you either have a license or you don't. There's no grey areas here.
You can share your catch with your immediate family and friends but can not accept any form of compensation whether monitory, goods, services, implied or otherwise.
If it's a legitiment cause, get a wholesaler to sponsor raffle and donate the prize.

Thanks guys.Thats pretty much what I was thinking.I thought they would make good prizes and cheap.Take a couple of the blokes out in the team who dont fish much and raffle them of at a fund raising do that night.
On the sponsorship side of things it's hard to get sponsors for a bunch of old farts to go on an end of season p..s up.
When I first got to Darwin 96 I was having a beer in the Parap when old an bloke walked in with a huge live muddy.I gave him a game of pool for it $20 to him if he won.He beat me on the black with a length off table double. Will never forget that shot never looked like missing.
