Heavy baitcasting setup

Talk about the gear you can't afford and knots you can't tie.

Heavy baitcasting setup

Post by Young_gun_fisho »

Does anyone have any suggestions for a rod to pair up with a shimano tranx 300ahg? Will be used for landbased work and some offshore use.

You get an expensive reel and want to team it with a cheapo/rubbish rod?

Should be the other way round.

Rod does all the work with the fish. Reel just gives drag.

What pound line are you putting on reel. Don't discount the Tairyo Rods.
I have a 6-8kg stick with a Calcutta on it holding 30lb braid and I reckon it's awesome for the price.
As always, it depends on budget

You can get a good baitcaster for 250 . I recommend checking out the Daiwa generation black series. I bought a couple for the kids but been using them more then my more expensive rods . Great blank for the price.

You wont need a tranx for barra that's more of a black bass setup.....keep in mind the weight of the lures you will be using as well
