Great Barrier Reef bleaching 2016

Global warming and overfishing. And any good news we can dig up.

Great Barrier Reef bleaching 2016

Post by Matt Flynn »

Sounds pretty crook ... http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/media-room/coral-bleaching

Map ... http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/__data/assets/ ... -2016A.pdf

Must have some effect on the makeup of fish stocks on the reef.

I spent the last weekend with mates from Canberra and they all said it was a load of poop and something the climate do gooders were spinning
i found it very interesting because none had ever been to the GBR and the others didnt fish.
so i wondered how they had come to the conclusion.
apparently they got their information from radio shock jocks
thats very scary because these fellas are very smart wealthy men.

The general consensus was that it wasnt going to affect them in NSW so why give a poop! amazing :bonk:

No one will accept it until the whole Arctic ice cap is gone ...

Dunno what the solution is though, don't think there is one other than population control.

The problem isn't climate change or even necessarily population control. It is ever increasing profits in a debt based banking system that is the root of the problem. This system relies upon growth so much that a decreasing or even stable population is considered a bad thing. Until this changes there are no solutions to the world's problems only bandaids.

Agreed re economy and banking. It's going to take a helluva leader to fix it all.

This could be Donald Trumps silver lining. He might just mess things up so badly a leader hell bent on real reform emerges.

And over to Greenland, check out the graph ... http://www.smh.com.au/environment/green ... ohx1z.html

Waterfront property might be interesting in 50 years time. Not a good time to buy in a surge zone.

That is a significant deviation from the mean in a short period of time.

Overpopulation and increasing population is a factor in so many environmental problems, and no doubt we are addicted to growth. Unlimited growth on a finite planet can only lead to disaster. But global population increase is driven by high birthrates, which are in poorer regions, and driven by a lack of education amongst women and lack of access to birth control rather than baby bonuses that here in Australia can't even get our fertility rate above replacement level.

Mate that is exactly nail on the head........the whole system is built on continual growth....absolute madness......and the way the keep it that way is to ensure that those who make it to decision making positions or drive policy direction, those who control the release and flow of information are those who benefit most from that system.
No matter where you go, there you are!

This is a nasty side effect of neo-liberalism. We have seen some good things come from it though the unintended consequences are nasty.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve got mates who actually listen to and believe whatever he and Ray Hadley say ‘because they have teams of people doing research into everything’

When I said that they should do their own research, they say that there is no need because the shock jocks do it for them
These people aren’t stupid old ladies sitting at home with nothing to do, they are wealthy businessmen worth mega dollars.

Is a pity that the truth wasn't brought to their attention because the govt would be doing something by now
