Barra Imbalance

Post by Walkabout »

Are we creating an imbalance by only keeping barra in our water ways? No one keeps Powertail at corroboree or sharks at the Daly. Should we neck the same number of these other species if we catch them relative to the barra we take home?

The bull sharks are rediculous at the Daly. Cant believe they are researched there. Waste of money tagging them as there is no way they are in threat of disapearing. That money should go into reef fish research.

I would have thought so. I guess it would depend a bit on the how much of their diet or habitat is the same. And whether that is a limiting factor in population density.

I let 'em go regardless. But I've seen videos of pro fishermen necking bycatch.

Sure. We are creating huge imbalances on everyaspect of the marine environment. That's been the nature of our relationship with all ecosystems since jot. I reckon enough calfish get necked by people who don't like the.look of them to even it out and while sharks flourish here around the world their numbers are decimated and extinction for several species is likely.
Its not a crisis unless there is blood around.
If there is blood around......well its a police matter...
