caught this in today in the elizabeth river 26/1/08 is it a type of bream or something else?? wasn't bad eating

Slatey bream/blackall I think. Average eating, but not too bad if bled and you cut the red bit out, so I am told by Queenslanders.

Make it into crumbed fish nuggets and you can't go wrong. Only thing that still tastes bad as nuggets is billabong barra.

they dont get kept on charter.

intertesting to hear it tasted good? how did u cook it.

i filleted one, one day to see what it looked like and found it was really dark flesh with a strong smell.

wasn't dark flesh it was light in colour, wasn't strong smelling either, wife will only eat mild fish, we just filleted took off skin and light coated with flour salt and pepper. :fishy:

That's great info Clive - nothing like getting the good oil first hand.

I bet there are a few people kicking themselves now for all the slateys they have chucked back.

And I bet a few mother-in-laws are smiling!
