What everyone else said, finish school. Do as much as you can.

I finished year 12 and started an engineering degree. Through a whole load of bad experiences I said to hell with it. I had landed a job in the industry and just kept at it. 15 years on I wish I had that degree.

I am pretty lucky to be as far up the corporate ladder as I am without it, I am from the last of the generation where the degree was optional, it's not uncommon in the older guys but you don't see it in the younger ones.

Progression is a big difference though. The young guys with the degrees all got ahead regardless of their capability, I even trained many and reviewed their work. They progressed and I struggled. It's now only after a long hard slog that I am at the point where it is no longer a factor.

As Dex said, get out there and expose yourself to potential employers. I have never applied for a job in my working life and have never been without employment. Write up a neat concise CV, go have a chat to people and leave a copy of the CV for them. Give them a call back, work for it and offers will come. Trust me, no one wants to advertise, sift through 100 applications and interview 10 candidates and pick which one is the least sh!t.

And by the way, do not underestimate how important your written skills will be. I focused on science and math for engineering. I could not have been more wrong.
