Seeing that a few seem intent to let it all hang out there is something that I'd like to raise. May as well do it here as anywhere else.

Here are some facts.

Mindful of the shortfalls in search and rescue aids in the NT, a move was made to obtain some very useful training equipment for the NT search and rescue authorities.

About $1000 worth of specialised equipment was made with the intention of making it available free of charge on long term loan for the use of the water police in Darwin in finding EPIRB/emergency beacons that had been activated.

Training in that sort of activity and becoming proficient at it is a bit of a dilemma as it can only be done when an emergency beacon has been activated or when some specialised equipment is available.

The equipment was made specially for the purpose along with a training beacon on a frequency slightly different to the actual one used by beacons.

The person who made it wasn't enjoying good health (and still isn't) and came out of retirement to do it for a worthy cause at my request. He did it in between bouts of treatment. I made a 700km round trip to see him and pick up the gear when it was ready.

Remember that the people who were going to benefit from this were you people. Territorians. Not me or the fellow who went to all the trouble to manufacture it.

I asked a prominent forum user and if he'd be willing to receive the equipment, become familar with it and contact the Darwin water police with a view to showing them how to use it and then giving it to them.

Such a gesture would be seen as recreational fishermen doing their community bit for all territorians. Improve the profile of the FFF forum.

Yes was the answer.

The equipment was delivered to him 12 months ago.

Since then nothing has been heard from him apart from one explanation many months ago of being too busy to do anything with it. He seems to be active enough on other forums though.

Now there's no answer to any messages seeking progress.

2 calls to the Darwin water police of late reveal that the equipment would be gratefully put to good use immediately by training up Customs Dept resources. That would significantly enhance the search and rescue capability in NT wrt emergency beacon activations.

Those calls also revealed that they've had no approach from the forum member and furthermore were surpised to learn that the equipment had been sitting in Darwin for nearly 12 months.

The water police knew of the member from reading forum activities (as they do for intelligence purposes at times).

There may be an explanation for the failure to deliver and the failure to respond to progress requests.

I'd like to hear it as I'm sure others would. I'm not holding my breath.

However, the most immediate concern is how to get the equipment into the hands of the water police.

I'd suggest that forum members in Darwin would be in the best position to work that out.

So over to you. Any ideas?

Doug, I'll take your point but if you want to be at the top of the ladder by bullying others expect a few rocks to be thrown along the way.
This had my name in it so presumed you directed it at me ?

Is there more to this? Does this have anything to do with the rescue boat being decommissioned? Or was it always going to the water police? Why didn't you give it straight to them? How much training would be required to operate this bit of kit?

It looks like the problem that I posted is about to be sorted. There is now a delivery plan for the equipment.

The person was bit concerned that the comment about the water police knowing him implied that they had an issue with him. Not to my knowledge.

The only person who did have an issue was me and he deserved a rev for being slack.

Matter now finished.

Good idea Sy.

Would you like a 4 page dissertation on why I don't share your enthusiasm for C-Tek chargers? I'm sure that'll get the thread back on track.

Guys, when a fella goes to the trouble to "copy and paste" 4 pages of google searched topic matter in reply to a general question, you should be more appreciative.
