Crabs still around

Post by Pedro70 »

I have a mate coming up from Adelaide and was keen to take him crabbing . As I haven't been out for a couple of months due to work and wind was wondering if there is still a few around or do we just go fishing ?

SWA last month we got 13 big bucks and twice the amount of jennies. Threw all the girls back and kept the boys. Managed the bucks by putting pots right up in the little arms coming off the main system. Jennies filled.our pots in the main system. Not sure if this was the key to getting the bucks though. Just seemed to be the pattern at the time. Heard Middle arm is crabbing really well for bucks as of late.
It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

“Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime”

"Soon after I embraced the sport of angling I became convinced that I should never be able to enjoy it if I had to rely on the cooperation of the fish."

What for you mob let all the big jennies go. All they do is kill the small crabs. They don't breed! Juvinile crabs lay all the eggs. QLD law is 100 years old and is a load of cr.p!

Thats it CC. Big Jennies are just Buck smashers. They go through menopause, get cranky with the young Bucks who try to mate with them and smash them up. Just like human females :naughty:

Prefer jennies myself. Don't much like the texture of the big buck claw meat...

Yes cuddlescooper and others are right big jennies kill all the smaller bucks trying to mate with them. With taking both at large size as we have done for many many years up here our crab stocks seem to be getting stronger, yet qld you would be lucky to get a size buck in ten trips. All about fishing management.

I'm with you guys, went to Shoal Bay yesterday, ended up with about 30 all up, kept 4 bucks and 4 big girls, nothin wrong with them tonight on the chew!
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!
