Crab Pot Legislation

Post by gammo42 »

Hello all, heading over to NT from Vic and QLD. What is the legislation on Crab Pots in NT? I can't find info on the float, in QLD has to be 6" diameter. Can you get away with a 2 litre milk bottle in NT?

Cheers

Gammo

Youll find all info on NT's Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries (DPIF) website mate.

Correct Floats are required.
Territorians are pretty protective of our fish & crab stocks. Use the right gear and leave others gear alone and its all happy days !!

Fair enough....
Yeah your probably right! Floats have to be attached but doesnt actually state 'white round float'
I just always use proper white floats. other bottles, cork etc etc can be mistaken for rubbish....

Someone will soon jump on and give full run down of the law im sure!'

Thanks for the responses, this will be our third trip back into the Limmen Bight area, its a costly exercise for my mate to drive from Vic so every saving is a plus, if he can use old milk bottles it would be good!!

From memory, main thing is to have your name and address on the float.

And the NT tides are big, so big floats are better, because little ones can be dragged under.

Crabs are pretty big too, a Ned Kelly outfit might be useful ... http://www.cafepress.com/fishfinder/5960898 :)
