Re: Another Croc attack
There used to be a saying in tassie that went something like
if it flows, dam it
if it swims, catch it
if it flys, shoot it
if it moves kill it.
Leave the eco system alone and give it a chance
if it flows, dam it
if it swims, catch it
if it flys, shoot it
if it moves kill it.
Leave the eco system alone and give it a chance

Re: Another Croc attack
Anyone got anything on what crocodiles add to the Eco system ??
Or what the problem was with the original cull I cannot see anything wrong with the Eco system now Nd back when they where culled
If some one was to say the sharks breed up because there wasn't enough crocs my opinion would change
Had a shark take a fizzer today.. Did I mention I don't like sharks ??

Not specific to crocs, though a bit of time doing a search would come up with some data. This is more general and well worth a read.DOUG wrote:Anyone got anything on what crocodiles add to the Eco system ??

I'm not sure of the actual impacts of their removal in northern Australia, someone would know or at least have a good idea. One thing I'm certain of though is that it will never happen as an intended eradication program. Limited culls of problem animals will always be the extent of it. Why's that? Because despite the squeaky gates the vast majority of northerners would not stand for it. Yes they can be restrictive and yes they figure in the occasional Darwin Award but who could imagine a river without them?? A very un(northern)-Australian thought if you ask me.

No worries Doug...............actually it wasn't you this was targeted at, not in the habit of flogging a dead horse. Just using your quote as a 'lead in'. It's always worth understanding the background on why givens are what they are. Thought others would find the piece interesting.DOUG wrote:Thanks dick

This has been an informative and entertaining chat, respectful condolences to the family of the young fella . being a stupid southerner I definitely have no knowledgable input to this discussion other than to say if you keep fcuking with nature, you are asking for shite-loads of trouble a la the canetoad disaster. But please keep on with the I hate crocs...I hate sharks.......I hate southerners.....i hate whatever is not the flavor of the month, it makes good reading for those of us who aren't up there in God's country catching the mythical metre long chromey.

Re: Another Croc attack
I think a quick cull of southerners would be more benificial than shooting a poor old croc

Get your things together and remember to pack a new toothbrush. Big Bubba in B division likes his new cellies to have nice smelling breath
