6 metres - Port Alma - Fitzroy

Post by ronje »

Big?? Yep.

Real big?? Yep.

6m?? Don't know as it wasn't actually measured apparently.

Have a look at the guy skinning it and then look at croc. Big alright.

In 1963 the hide would have been worth a bit.

Been having a good look at the photo and doing some comparative measurements.

Estimated 20 ft equals 6.1 metres.

A 6 metre croc equals 19 ft 8 inches.

A reasonable measure from the ground to the waistband or belt line on the person skinning the croc is 1 metre.

Considering that the crocs tail is slightly curved and extends beyond the edge of the photo, I've come up with a figure of 5.5 metres (equals 18ft).

Therefore not the magic 6 metre nor the 20 ft mark.

But still one hell of a croc.

John Lever of Koorana Croc Farm has 2 over 5 metres and I've stood beside both of them but they're definitely not 5.5 metres like I reckon this one is.

Sounds about right. It's a cracker. Not surprised Port Alma could support such a critter.
