Buy a hobby soldering iron, from supercrap and brand the plastic casing with 'Stolen from' and your license no, or an identifiable mark.
Bottom side of the casing is pretty well hidden.
If the lense is polycarb, you could even do it in a corner without upsetting the light spread.

The cops are not dills, they will ask some hard questions if the grind marks match the location you give them on whatever you're trying to get back.
