NT Billfish Classic winning marlin

Post by Matt Flynn »

Just been sent this picture of Trevor Robb's big marlin caught during last weekend'a NT Billfish Classic out of Dundee. Trevor said: "I caught this on Sunday afternoon to win the Billfish Classic. The magnificent fish was caught only 16 nautical miles from the lodge of Dundee, she was at a minimum 3.15m long due to the way we held her with the measuring. I estimated somewhere between 220kg and 250kg. It took around 1 hour and 40 mins on 24kg gear and towed us 6.5km. And 12-year-old Jayden also caught his first sailfish on Monday morning, it was about 12kg, enough to give us champion team, champion angler and champion junior angler."

By all accounts, the fishing was otherwise poor, shame as everyone expected big things at the new Fog Bay venue, after at least two years of crazy May sailfish action.
