Finniss River closure
Just a friendly reminder to those fishing in the tournament on the Finniss this weekend; dont forget about the closure to the river. The area affected begins approximately 13.5 kilometres (by river) upstream from the mouth of the Finniss River. The approximate GPS reading on the northern side of the river is 12.903S and 130.410E, and 12.904S and 130.410E on the southern side.
Areas of the Finniss River from the mouth to the above GPS points remain open under the interim access regime extended by the Full Council of the NLC to 30 June 2013.
The NLC most likely will be chasing the Fisheries Department to patrol the river this weekend and competitors behaviour will determine future outcomes.

Re: Finniss River closure
If any fisheries officer was to see any one past the boundary if like to think they would turn a blind eye it would e the Australian thing to do !! Going to be crowded with so much of the river being used off I heard today there is no limit on where you can fish as long as your back in time that arvo ? Maybe because of the closure they opened it up ?Matt Flynn wrote:Appreciate the heads up for competitors, but this line was a bit of a surprise ...The NLC most likely will be chasing the Fisheries Department to patrol the river

Wasn't it on the radio this afternoon. As long as you launch and retrieve at dundee, you can go anywhere.

Re: Finniss River closure
Correct me if I am wrong, but why are fisheries supposedly enforcing the exclusion zone? Fisheries have no power to enforce an exclusion under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act, only the Police do. And even they need written permission from the NLC to commence an action. Confusing.

They are probably talking about the police division called fisheries

Most likely the Water Police then? Haven't heard of the other mob for years.

Hope so, but I recall the marine section was stretched thin before these closure lines existed. Interesting if this is an added responsibility. They are probably talking about the police division called fisheries
Re the closure line - if people ignore it the TOs may close the whole river.

That's right Matt, it will be a whole river shut out then, everybody looses, unless you happen to know a TO from the region.
