RESULTS
First - Cunning Stunts 2213
Second - Polar Bears 1430
Third - Horse Whisperers 1365
Fourth - Top End Tackle World 1348
Fifth - Team Koolabung Lures 1299

Champion fisho Matthew Bennett 1011

Many time previous champions Classic Warlocks scored 1057

Fishing was hard with some of the 61 teams going fishless. Started as a casting comp around the creeks mouths with some teams moving towards trolling later on.

Some teams had no fish. River still very average as comp ended, but was settling down after the flooding.

PGFC's Paul Williams said this morning: "It was the hottest comp I can remember, with super hot days, high 30s every day," he said.
"We were running down the river in the morning in shorts - we didn't need the usual jackets and jumpers that we wear on the cold mornings.
"Fishwise it was tough - the river is only just starting to settle now, it was dropping quickly the week before.
"About 700 fish were taken altogether, and probably fewer than 10 meteries (exact stats coming later).
"The fish were up and down the system but biting spasmodically.
"Normally there is some timing to when they come on the bite but there was little indication of that.
"A lot of the gurus of previous years were going up and down the river trying to find the fish.
"It was as tough as it is ever going to get but people enjoyed themselves - it was a really good comp for people enjoying themselves after each day on the water."

Further to above, some 2013 catch stats will be through soon, here's last year's results for comparison.

Barra Nats 2012 (LAST YEAR)
Champion team Classic Warlocks 2966
Champion angler Trevor Robb 2109
Biggest Barra - Russel Fry Team Pirates 114cm
Total fish 633
Fish over a metre: 25 (new record, previous record was 17)

From Craigie Geeeee at Craig's Fishing Warehouse ... after his 10th Barra Nats.

"It was hot as hell, and the fishing was tough - but everyone had ball," he said.
"There were a couple of the hottest days out there that I have done on
the water
"That was my 10th Nats and it was the hardest one yet.
"A couple of days only 75 fish a day were landed among 180 competitors.
"There was the odd big fish caught but they were few and far between.
"The top contenders Cunning Stunts generally cast Powertail and
Elizabeth Creek mouths for hours on end.
"A few people went upstream and said they could see clean green water
up there, so maybe it was just too early.
"But the water clarity in general wasn't any worse than some other
years - I guess we are all looking for an excuse.
"Bamboo Creek looked really good and if I had my time again I would
have stayed there and fish.
"We spent a lot of time rocking out to my $59 GME ipod speaker."

More in the Sunday Territorian newspaper this weekend.

Those fish numbers aren't too far down on last year, less competitors last year?

There were still a fair few tourists around, and they had the advantage of being able to use cherabin which were pulling in the goods
Thank heavens I moved to the Territory, everything I love is here!
