Re: 2018 Iron Jack NT Barramundi Classic
I haven''t had one on my bigger boat as I am still running a Gen 2 hds 10 for most of the time and didn't have the side imaging box. Only in very recent times I have interfaced my hds 7 gen 3 into the 10 but that has only been the last 3 months. If i Fish on my cousins boat he has a hds 9 gen 3 with side imaging but that is only a few trips here and there. In general no I haven't used side imaging that much over the last few years.

And the simple fact that a 24 inch screens megapixels will magnify an image and give ya so much more detail than what a 7 or 10 inch screen will. What we guess might be fish or might be rocks, logs ect are seen on a bigger screen to be individual barra sitting in timber or other structure. This confidence and difinition of fish allows ya to target them easier and less time is wasted casting to some thing that probably isnt a fish and usually a rock.
The other advantage is that you can identify exactly how far from the boat and what direction ect they are. This cuts down wasted casts and keeps you in the strike zone longer.

I have a 2006 ish sounder that only tells me how deep the water is. Still catch my fair share of Fish
Watched the new breed of " sounder watches " evolve and it's not my idea of fishing.
Remember years ago everyone up here fished with gold bombers for 5-10 years, two years later everyone switched to a Guns and Roses classic

I’d have to strongly disagree with that , coming from sumone who has run HD’s 10 gen they put out bl..dy good side image picture , bloke wins cause he is the best at wat he does due to a lot factors . The sounder would be small part of that . Most proablly cant beat him cause to busy making up excusescuddlescooper wrote:And the simple fact that a 24 inch screens megapixels will magnify an image and give ya so much more detail than what a 7 or 10 inch screen will. With ponyplay on 80% is pure time spent fishing and talent from years of fishing and the Daly is he's playground.
Technology plays apart but he does more fishing than we dream of.

Plays huge part but my point is the boats he is beating would have high class sideimaging as well . I’m sure he has won champion angler few times as well in different comps, the two other guys should come second and third if his sounder is so good . Don’t know the guy , just roll my eyes when people try claim the reasons he wins etc , my guess is he wins a . Good fishing and b. The most important thing he lives on the waterSTANDY wrote:With ponyplay on 80% is pure time spent fishing and talent from years of fishing and the Daly is he's playground.

Put them all out there with 24" screens and see who wins.
Even the way they pull the fish in is slick, no mucking around

Guys I have a Simrad NSS EVO3 12 inch and my imaging is as clear as the gear Shane uses but on a smaller scale. He has the 24 inch gen 2 so the processor is actually slower than mine . My unit does all his does but on a smaller scale but the fact is he knows how to read it better and he is just a bl..dy good fisherman. I have seen how he works on a boat and as mentioned earlier if he doesn't see a fish on the sounder he doesn't fish the area and moves on

And not just magnifiy it, but give you resolution at full HD (1920x1080) instead of the 800 x 480 offered by the HDS9 or the 1280 x 800 of the HDS12.cuddlescooper wrote:And the simple fact that a 24 inch screens megapixels will magnify an image and give ya so much more detail than what a 7 or 10 inch screen will.
Those big simrads are a beast of a unit.

Yep, still Shane. I've watched him fish the last two classics in a bit more detail than others, he has the knowledge, the patience and the persistence. He'd still win it with my 7"Humminbird side scan unit....Matt Flynn wrote:Put them all out there with 24" screens and see who wins.

Passion is the key ingredient in his success. This drives all of his behaviours. Whether it’s going the extra mile, using a bigger ‘better’ sounder or pioneering new techniques/gear.
The boy just loves catching barra. When you love it as much as he does you get very good at it.
