We can always do with more volunteers (and volunteer boats)

Its a great way to spend time at the comp without the pressure and expense

One day i will find a spare 20 grand so i can buy compains sounder. Then it would be game on. As it stands the comps are all about technology and being able to use it. I would like to take part in a comp where only a basic sounder was allowed and see how we all go.

I’d like to see it a “one lure” comp.....

Do you seriously think his sounder is the reason behind his constant success, I’m sure it plays large part in it but most other boats would have to have sumthing in the same ballpark ? I’d guess his success is down to being a. A bl..dy good fisho and b. Being on the water a lot leading up to the comps , getting a good read on wat fish are up to before the comp . Local knowledge years of it

Ponyplay, he is a very good fisherman no doubt but it is easy to be a good fisherman when you can see every time a fish farts. You still have to know when they are gonna bite, when the water conditions allow you to catch the fish, and find them in the first place from time on the water but all the teams that succeed are running top of the line technology. I know Shane thinks like a fish and has hundreds of theory''s on why they do what they do but the simple fact of life is that he can count how many scales are on the fish with his sonar allowing for this information to be gathered. I drive down a river and see a eddie, water color change, some bait flicking, a fish rolling, pressure wave in the water or a tide change and guess that there is gonna be fish there. He drives up to those signs, looks on the sounder and says....there''s no fish there so i''m not wasting my time and will look some where else.....or fark, there''s 3 metery''s, 5 ninty''s a Powertail and 2 sharks so i''m gonna hammer the frig out of it until they bite. Its even getting to the point that guys are seeing the angle of the fishes head in relation to the current and determining wether the fish are feeding, holding up, resident fish or other. Technology is a massive part of the game. With out fund coupons it is now very hard for the average competitor to even look like competing in these comps especially on pressurised fish.

He said seeing them and hooking them are two different things, others boats can fish the same fish but not get them.

That said a "things of stone and wood" fishing comp isn't a bad idea either

I haven''t had one on my bigger boat as I am still running a Gen 2 hds 10 for most of the time and didn't have the side imaging box. Only in very recent times I have interfaced my hds 7 gen 3 into the 10 but that has only been the last 3 months. If i Fish on my cousins boat he has a hds 9 gen 3 with side imaging but that is only a few trips here and there. In general no I haven't used side imaging that much over the last few years.

And the simple fact that a 24 inch screens megapixels will magnify an image and give ya so much more detail than what a 7 or 10 inch screen will. What we guess might be fish or might be rocks, logs ect are seen on a bigger screen to be individual barra sitting in timber or other structure. This confidence and difinition of fish allows ya to target them easier and less time is wasted casting to some thing that probably isnt a fish and usually a rock.

The other advantage is that you can identify exactly how far from the boat and what direction ect they are. This cuts down wasted casts and keeps you in the strike zone longer.
