Re: Barra Nats 2014
The average winning score is about 3500 to 4500 points. It equates to five good fish a day over the 5 day period (70cm plus fish). The numbers this year are down but so is the water level in the river. The wet season came to a too abrupt end. if the comp had of been two weeks earlier there would have been 100 meteries caught but as with all fishing timing is every thing. The water hit the right stage earlier then normal and the smaller to mid size fish aren't in the system due to the poor wets of past years. All part of the cycle IMHO. They are doing it hard!

Re: Barra Nats 2014
Your on the money cuddle I've fished the Nats since 2006 and our best finish was 9th in 2008 had a year off this year 2011 was something I don't think anyone will ever see again at the Nats.
Last year was just as hard off the top of my head I think there were 20 odd teams that didn't boat a fish,2009 was the same and that year Shane won it in the first day with the Mack trolling down the guts.
I am back next year so fingers crossed its a huge wet season for 2015 but I'm not holding my breathe in my 8 years of fishing the Nats I can only count a few days where the fishing was hot but that's comp fishing as we know it and it's as much as catching up with everyone at Banyan farm and having a few beers the fishing is a bonus especially if you happen to land a few

Outstanding, no wonder you cancelled the cockroach hunt. You will be on the next advisory committee when they finish the next survey.

Yeah looks like the fisheries boys are better at catching mud mullet than getting their recommendations implemented

Re: Barra Nats 2014
Nice effort Ghound. looks like a bl..dy hard week of fishing. Herd that the fish are in the river but not on the chew. A mate was saying he would have seen 50+ big fish rolling on the surface over the week but they only converted 1 to the lines. Its pretty bad when they only got 3 scoring fish for the week and came 12th over all.
You really start scoring for fish over 70cm. Fish around that size will give you a couple hundred points each. The bigger the fish the more points you earn.
The point system Starts at a 40cm fish which is worth 5 points. As the fish get bigger the more points that are scored. A metery from memory is worth 380ish points. A 120cm is about 800ish points.Polycrafty wrote:How does the point system work?
