I am keen to enter, but just as it was last year I will be away from Darwin for at least three months (Jan, Oct, Nov, Dec) due to work and training commitments, which means there is really no point because you can't win the comp unless you fish every month.
I am sure that there are a few others in the same boat, what do you think about having a handicap award.
It could work something like this, you nominate in advance the months you are not in NT/Darwin and then for that month your fish length is the average of all the other months, does that make sense?
Obviously you keep the outright winners places as well, but the handicap place may entice a few more entrants???
No point coughing up $30 for lures if you never have a chance of a return...

There's a mistery prize award for every month , and biggest fish for the month prize as well so still worth it
Sum times its not about winning or loseing brent its how you play the game. (good write ups, fishing PHOTOS and just getting out there and having a go)
Your idea makes sence, im away jan june july and dec
Its these months which can sought good anglers out from the anglers, i Can see sum people crying all ready about the idea.
Count me in Bandit

I'm with Moonman. 2009 was a long year and it would be nice to try and get together and put some names to faces to really put this on a social standing. I know some of the guys work on FIFO rosters so timing will never be good but the weather is not good for fishing at the moment so how about tring to get something on for this week or weekend? Any suggestions?

no offence buddy but I dont think a handicap system would be such a great idea.Brent Matthews wrote:I am keen to enter, but just as it was last year I will be away from Darwin for at least three months (Jan, Oct, Nov, Dec) due to work and training commitments, which means there is really no point because you can't win the comp unless you fish every month.

The way averages work would mean the following.
if you got a 99 in feb from the Finniss, a 101 in march from shady, a 115 in april from south aligator, a tripplet of 80's in may/jun/jul from the daly, an 80/94 from shoal bay in aug/sept you would take out the comp overall with 1094 total and 91cm as your average. Those sorts of scores could be easily done by a number of members on here that arent here all year.
I vote for strictly keeping it simple and not introducing a handicap system.

Cheers for everyone that competed in '09, & good luck for 2010.

I would agree With NathanL keep it simply and the way the rules are set out. the hole idea is to try and get out there and give it ago! not every one will get a fish every month so for all those that travel for work me included you still have a chance if you get on to a few good fish when you are able to have a cast.

Would be good to catch up and meet a few FFFers, pretty flexible with dates and ALWAYS thirsty!!!
Also agree about keeping the comp as simple as possible, handicaps and newspapers in photos don't make a lot of sense, to me anyway. Just my opinion.
The two lures it cost me last year was well worth it, not only for the excuse to get out and chase barra every month, but also a fair few hours over the year on the forum reading everybodies posts.. .. Mrs thinks I'm addicted, but I just tell her at least I've stopped looking at porn....
Cheers Muntzy.

looks like its shaping up to be another good comp in 2010. Already got 20 odd people showing interest and its stil only early days
thanks for all the feedback fellas. the general consensus im reading on here and from pm's is to scrap the idea of the newspaper. we'll keep it simple and rely on peoples honesty throughout the year
i will let everyone know where to drop off lures shortly.
Just remember you dont have to get a barra in every month to get a prize. There is already enough entrants for prizes each month for biggest and mystery as mentioned above -so everyone is in for a chance even if you miss out on a month or two.
''Gibbo'' has jumped on board with some awesome sponsership , this great prize will be given away for the first barra submitted at a mystery length which has already been decided by him, this is something all barra fishos would love to win and pretty exciting cause it could go off at anytime throughout the year. If anyone else would like to get on board with sponsorship of any sought be sure to let me or matt know
Cheers fellas and will post up some more info soon. Not to late to get on board if you havnt already! come'on' give it a crack
