Camping around Darwin

Post by Young_gun_fisho »

Hello forum, this holidays my mate's and I are looking to do some camping around the Darwin area. Gunn Point was our first thought, although does anyone know any other areas that aren't too far from Darwin and are relatively easy to access?

1 Fella & 2 Fella creeks are open since the whole Kenbi claim has been abolished.
Awesome land based spot but could be busy.

Cheers NinjaFish, was thinking about the wagait beach/cox peninsula area. Just wondering if we require a proper 4wd to do it, or if we could do it in a compact 4wd or Awd

Wagait to 2 Fella is easy enough but from 2-1 Fella you need a 4WD.

If the Kenbi claim has been abolished they have been very quiet about it!

Suggest checking with the NLC first before heading out, this is their website's current access map ... https://www.nlc.org.au/uploads/pdfs/180 ... Map-A3.pdf

I shouldn’t have used the word abolished.

Locals are saying that it’s before the courts again and they’re not enforcing the zones as the Rangers have all been stood down. Something to do with the Larrakia mob not being recognised or consulted!

I’ll try and find out more detail.

Any how, plenty of good camping spots across the beaches from Wagait to 2 Fella with rocky outcrops and mangroves. Low tide observation helps with picking a good spot.

There was this story ... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-23/ ... t/12079070

Until there is an official announcement I'd be careful about where you are going. Might want to call the Wagait store and see if they have some local info.

theirs a good spot near the old pub Mandorah. nice shaded area with lots to fish. 2 fella is very busy on weekends trust me same as gun point, you wont find a camping spot there nowadays before the people rock up like ants setting their gazebos up the beach. if you go right before dundee ramp and follow the shore along you will find a nice camping spot up on the bank with a creek. have caught barra here before and lots of salmon. otherwise plenty of tracks along the blackmore around rural area. most can put pots out and get a good feed of cherabin
